The neighborhood has taken some flack but you can rest assured their on clean up patrol. Casa Don Rolando has a nice big off street parking lot with plenty of light.
Once inside you will be treated to a warm inviting space that begs you to take your time with your meal. You'll almost have to take your time, service here is friendly and efficient but not paced like the cheapo Cuban joint with the greasy floors. Give dinner 1 1/2-2 hours and at least an hour for lunch. I suggested Casa Don Rolando set up a nap room for breaks between the main course and dessert. The waitstaff instead offered us use of the grand patio furnished with over sized chairs and couches, cigars most welcomed.
The starter menu is awesome. I've had a chance to try the Empanadas, Croquetas, Papa Rellena, salad, and chicken noodle soup. All were by far the best I've had in LA.
Main courses I've tried so far are the Arroz con Pollo, Ropa Vieja, Churrasco, Masitas de cerda and something not on the printed menu called Arroz Imperial. The Arroz Imperial is a spectacular mouthgasm not to be missed! The Ropa Vieja was the only dish I've had here that did not meet my already high expectations.
Dessert menu is short but very well thought out. I always enjoy guava shells after a Cuban dinner. Flan has never done it for me but CDR's homemade version is beautiful and silky smooth. I'd order it again.
Espresso and cigars on the patio finish off your leisurely night in Old/New Havana now in the San Fernando Valley.
Now if I could only get the chef to add Boliche to his menu this would become my all time favorite Cuban restaurant!
Pros: Menu, decor, service
Cons: location

I tried this place out based on the recommendation here on Citysearch. I wasn't disappointed! So unlike the canned same-old-same-old pizza you get from Pizza Hut or Dominos. This was your truly special local pizzeria. I ordered a three different pizzas for a pool party I was attending.
1. Pepperoni & Cheese
2. Pepperoni, Sausage & Cheese
3. Black Olives, Bell Peppers, Mushrooms, Tomatoes &Cheese
All three turned out delicious. Plus I received lots of compliments on the pizza from my friends and family.
I would definitely try this place out if you live in the area. (They have free delivery!)
Pros: Pizza, Fresh ingredients, tasty, and affordable.
Cons: none.

My husband stopped by this restaurant one afternoon to pick up their Italian BBQ. Finally, we made it back for dinner and I had one of those LA moments of "this restaurant is in this mini-mall?" Nice atmosphere, family-owned, great standard Italian fare. And great value for our meal. We are looking forward to going back and sharing w/ our Valley friends.
Pros: Atmosphere and great standard Italian fare and BBQ
Cons: Typical LA mini-mall exterior may make you wonder

For a chain restaurant, Numero Uno has the best pizza. Maybe it's all the sugar they make it with. Maybe it's the fact they use pieces of tomatos instead of red sauce. Maybe it's their yummy topping options. Whatever it is it's worthe the slightly higher price you pay for their food.
Pros: great pizza, delivery
Cons: higher price

Tacos don chente, Picosos Y calientes! Translation; spicy and hot, And let me tell you, They sure live up to their motto. But you can ask them to hold the chile rojo, if thats not your cup of tea.
Their menu consists of tacos, Burritos, Sopes, and other Traditional Mexican dishes. They have something for the whole family for Taco Tuesdays.
If traditional home made Mexican cuisine, wont get your taste buds going on over-drive, their vast selection of natural fruit juices will. Made in front of you, with fresh fruit and a smile.

Whenever I visit my buddy over in North Hills, we gotta stop by Tacos Michoacan. They have huge burritos stuffed with so much great food it makes me mouth water just thinking about it. Their tacos are very good, very crisp and crunchy. I recommend the Combo #5. It's one of their giant burritos topped off with homemade guacomole and tomatos and some great mexican rice and refried beans with cheese. Make your day a happy one and your stomach a full one.
PROS: Great, fast, cheap mexican food. Just like my grandma used to make in LA.
