The ice cream at Herrells is creamy, cool, and delicious. They have the best sundaes and smoosh ins. This storefront is a walk through to the busy Thornes Marketplace but has some off to the side booths that you can stop and enjoy your cone in. If its a hot day, your better off heading outside and enjoying your ice cream in the sun while you people watch. All in all a great place. P.S. Try their Herrells hot fudge, its homemade, delicious, and they sell it at a lot of independent organic grocery stores.

The flavors rock here and the employees are helpful. A bit pricy, but worth the splurge.

Steve Herrell was I believe, the inventor of the smoosh-in ice cream creation, whereby your friendly Herrell's scooper will graciously take a smattering of your favorite ice cream toppings and meticulously smoosh them into your chosen number and flavor of scoops ultimately creatiing your very own evenly blended, personalized dairy (or non-dairy if you've ordered the "no-moo") decadence. Yum. There's a reason people line up out the door for a taste.

The is THE place for ice cream in Northampton, nay, the whole pioneer valley. The New York Times even said so. Steve Herrell has made good by dishing up all his own creations of delicious for at least 20 years. On a recent saturday I had to wait 30 minutes in a line snaking out the door people were so dedicated.
There is only one person I've met that does like the creamy, lovely, concoctions of dairy (ginger, pumpkin, burnt sugar n' butter!), that's my boyfriend. Maybe he's a dud, but this place isn't. Get there if you can and enjoy your catch on the hill opposite or strolling down main.
