This new york sports location is one of the better ones. They have hours until 11pm on most days. The facilities do look rundown, but they have a lot of equipment and the prices are reasonable. I haven't tried the classes yet, but they seem to be popular

The YMCA on 14th street is a facility offering all of the benefits that any other gym in New York charges 3 times more for. It is equipped with an olympic size pool, a full-court basketball gym. For those looking to run there is a track upstairs that goes around the gym as well as high-tech cardio equipment. In addition, the upstairs provides a computer center which is free of charge to use as well as classes for those looking to brush up their skills on the net or computer applications. On the lower lever, next to the basketball court and pool is a weight room free of the attitude provided by other gyms in nyc. The YMCA is a great place to work out, take classes, and feel great about yourself without spending half your rent.

I cant say enough about the quality of the classes, the attitudes of the staff, and the atmosphere of the place - its top notch. I would never have truly experienced Pilates as it should be taught if I had stuck with the previous place where I took classes.
The view from the studio is beautiful and the vibe very relaxing and peaceful. Jessica and Michelle are excellent teachers - and there is more that goes into being an excellent teacher than being an expert. I'll never leave!

this is the best gym i've ever attended. my trainer is totally professional. i don't know why everyone has been having issues with this gym- maybe they have been changing things. it's DEFINITELY worth the money, considering what you get at other gyms for only slightly lower fees. the cleanliness, pleasing decor, locker rooms with nice amenities, friendly staff and great classes make such a difference that i'm willing to pay for.

If you are looking for a more casual and down to earth place and crowd of colleagues to work out with, this is a good place to consider. Especially if you live on the upper east side - it is convenient and in the neighborhood. Pretty reasonable for NYC prices as well.

I am a novice at Yoga, but still found this place entertaining. They were great at easing me into things and most of all explained the history behind the practices. I found it a bit interesting. The center is very clean, very professional and the staff is helpful. They are great for novices, not sure about those already experienced.

BE CAREFUL!!!!! These people engage in deceptive practices! They signed me up for a trial and said I could cancel within 30 days by giving them notice in writing. I went to them with a letter - they said it had to be mailed to them and they gave me a mailing address. I mailed the letter to them and it came back as "undeliverable". I went back to them to verify the address - they gave me the same one again. I sent the letter again - again they never accepted it. By then the 30 day period was over and they are now charging me $50 per month. THESE PEOPLE SHOULD BE SUED!!!!

My wife and I were members of the Equinox on 91st and Broadway for several years and really liked it. The 91st street location has great equipment and classes, the people are nice, and the gym is spacious and clean. When we moved to midtown I tried the Columbus Circle location for a few days and was disappointed mainly because it's not as spacious and is really dark. The gym is in the basement of the Time Warner building and does not get any natural light. For the price I'd prefer the Reebok. For people who want a less expensive gym that has good service (nice people) I'd also recommend the Gravity gym in the Parker Meridian Hotel on 57th between 6th and 7th.
