Pricey cuts and color with careless service

I must say I was curious to try the world-famous salon where many celebrities get their hair done. What I found out is that it really pays to be a celebrity here to get good service. First of all, the salon is located in one of the most expensive areas of NY - tony 57th Street between 5th and Madison. Second, it's located in the cool, curvy and sloping LVMH/Chanel building. So, I guess this ritzy location justifies the high prices.
I paid an exorbitant amount of money (10x the normal price) for a haircut and color and both were not what I expected. The cut was way too short even though I showed both a picture of the length I wanted and showed her on my hair itself. There were too many layers and the so-called stylist chose to use her own creative 'vision' to fix my hair. Meanwhile, I asked the colorist to touch up my roots (I'm a sandy brunette who goes beach blonde) and they mismatched my hair color! I was orange/red on top and blonde on the bottom. How difficult is it to match a color? Obviously, very if you go to FF and are not a celebrity. And for all that, I paid a fortune. I was brusquely told by the reception staff that I could have my hair redone for free. But why endure all of that again and damage my hair further? Not worth the price and hassle just to say I got my hair done at Frederic Fekkai.

I have been going to this place for about 5 years. Not cheap, especially for a man's haircut. The stylists do a good job and even throw in a bit of massage. The barbers are almost all Japanese and young so if you want to brush up on that foriegn language course you took...Appointments are a semi must unless you go off hours. Ussually you can schedule them the morning of except on weekends. Closed mondays. They also offer Shiatsu massages.

Ricky's sell everything you could possibly be looking for your hair needs. They have over 50 kinds of hair brushes, hair dye, gel, wigs and tons of makeup. They sell shampoo and conditioning with t-shirts, candles, body wash, and a special section in the back for "Adults only". It is definitely a fun store to go too. If you are ever looking for something for your hair you will find it at Rickys. It is also a great place to go to for Halloween costomes.

ADV is located on a tree-lined street in the west village (the store recently moved a few doors down to a larger storefront).
This shop is a pretty paradise for perfume lovers. No need to trek uptown to Barneys or Bergdorf's, ADV carries a lot of high end perfumes, some of out of stock ones, the traditional ones and a few unique concoctions. My favorite is Creed (spring flower which Audrey Hepburn used to wear) and it's well stocked here.
The owners are very nice and helpful. Truly a little gem.

You be surprised at what you can find at Ricky's. I recently discovered the jewelry there and while some of it's overpriced it is funky and fashionable. It's a little bit like Claire’s only not as much selection.
If you're looking for originality you won't find it there but you can find some nice accessories.

Ricky's has a great selection of makeup, medium-quality wigs and hairdye. It becomes a horrible mob scene around Halloween, but is a good resource for those looking for professional quality beauty products or more extreme hair coloring and cosmetics (they also have lots of non-edgy, lesser known brands). Why I can buy hair dye and sex toys (there's a back room with sex toys) in the same place I've never understood, but I'm not really complaining either.
