I went into their Lex store to check out the shoes. Was holding a pair ready to try on when I looked up to see that their salesguy was wearing a t-shirt that said, "Let's play Army. I lie down and you blow my head off." I'm hardly a prude, but I was so offended (and downright nauseated) that I put down the shoes and left, relieved that I didn't have my 6-year-old who can read with me.
It's one thing to see a shirt like that on someone you pass on the street or on the train, quite another when that person is in a service role in a store that caters almost exclusively to women.
Does anyone know how I can contact their ownership to complain?

Orva is weird. Onn one hand it's cluttered and feels like the most unsophisticated shopping experience ever. On the other hand, you can find great things at great prices here if you are persistent. If you're a true shopped you'll duck in here once a week, knowing that about once a month you'll get lucky. it's not the most pleasant shopping experience though.

The good thing about Orva is that it's a little bit of a break from the chain-store mall that 86th Street is quickly becoming. It's like a big boutique for women with a department store mentality, offering you nearly everything you need under one roof - clothing, handbags, shoes, hosiery, workout gear, etc. You could easily purchase a whole outfit from head to toe here.
However, since their renovation last year, the fun has sapped a little bit. The mix of clothing doesn't seem to be as good and the bargains a little less. In spite of this, I still like to check this store out whenever I'm in that area.

This is a nice size women's retail shop with clothes, gym gear, bags, and shoes. They also have a huge hosiery and sock section. The gym gear selection is probably the best in the UES next to Model's. Orva has Puma sample sales at the end of every season where you can score some great stuff for 40% off. The selection on bags is great. The shoe section offers Kenneth Cole, snow boots, tons of Puma sneakers, and more.

Orva is like a mini department store. They have two floors. The bottom floor is dedicated to attire, nightgowns, socks, hosiery, bags, etc. The second floor is all shoes and sportswear. Their prices are moderate to not cheap, but sometimes they have really good sales. I enjoy stopping in to see what they have. They also have a very good selection of coats in the back of the ground floor. They are currently renovating, so it will be exciting to see what they do!
