EQ is a marketing tool. The clubs lack quality mgmnt/staff. It is a revolving door of staff, now they are hired low level people, because they have hired/fired all the quality. The Pilates dept. is run by a director w/a terrible reputation Allyson Donnelly from NYSC, was fired for terrible reasons. Recently she has let go of top staff,for vanity reasons. EQ has all the dregs of the fitness world working/managing there clubs now. This is the "best of the Best." save your $ go anywhere but this company..

Equinox??????s group fitness manager Sarra Morton can??????t take any criticism of her own teaching. Instead of improving her methods of instruction, she has members kicked out of Equinox if they make a complaint. Sarra Morton and many other instructors invent moves that cause weak alignments that can permanently injure students in the long run. If you do get injured in her class and complain out it, she will have you permanently removed from the club without refund. I do not suggest Equinox at this point with their current management team.

I moved to Equinox after several years at NYSC. I just couldnt deal with the small lockers, towel nazis, dirty (and moldy) locker rooms and muscle heads, anymore. Regardless of the location I selected, these conditions seemed to prevail. The last straw came when my locker was broker into at an UWS location. There was a flaw that allowed the door to be jerked open. This was likely the work of an employee there. They staff and manager were ambivalent to say the least and even weeks later, the locker was not repaired, so certainly others were robbed as well. Yes, Equinox is expensive, but I have always found it to be clean, with ample equipment and a nice atmosphere. They offer plenty of classes and overcrowding is not an issue. Its seems another reviewer here is/was probably an trainer with Equinox. I'd have to say that one of the few issues I have with Equinox is their training staff. Several of them seem to think they own the place and that members revolve around them. Often they use the large lockers, (which are important to members wearing suits) and on the floor, they think nothing of using excessive space or several machines at once. Personally, if I dont enjoy a gym, I wont go. I am fortunate to have a corporate discount that makes Equinox more affordable. Money aside, I would certainly recommend the gym as one of the best I have ever used.

One of the most overrated clubs in the entire NYC region. Extremely expensive for its members and an an extremely bad employer who treats it instructors like second class citizens. When notified of a crab lice outbreak in one of the clubs' locker rooms, Equinox took retaliatory action against the instructor, instead of taking care of the problem. Sexual harassment is common place at this elitist club who believes it can pull anything on its employees because it wrongly believes it is the creme de la creme of clubs. In fact one supervisor of instructors was finally fired for sexual harassment only after a SEVENTH complaint.You would think that one of the highest membership fees in the industry would get you the best fitness instructors at Equinox. Hardly! The club employs 5 minute auditions for potential instructors and based on this methods they hire employees. An instructor recently returned from a 2+ year stint in Iraq when his National Guard unit was called up and the club refused to provide him with an audition opportunity.So, if you want to get your money sucked out of your wallet faster than you can blink and not get the best instructors the region has to offer, Equinox is the club for you! Pros: Other clubs are near by when it is time to switch memberships PROS: Others clubs are a short walk when it is time to switch memberships CONS: Rude front desk people, expensive, very snooty club

this is the best gym i've ever attended. my trainer is totally professional. i don't know why everyone has been having issues with this gym- maybe they have been changing things. it's DEFINITELY worth the money, considering what you get at other gyms for only slightly lower fees. the cleanliness, pleasing decor, locker rooms with nice amenities, friendly staff and great classes make such a difference that i'm willing to pay for.

With its ultra-clean, minimalist décor and its topnotch staff, Equinox raises the bar for chain health clubs. At consistently spacious facilities, the design team continually maximizes natural light and highlights organic architectural quirks. Equipment from industry standards like Cybex and Hammerstrength are paired with high-end machinery--including one specifically designed for the company by Life Fitness. Even the piped-in music (which varies from room to room) has been thoughtfully programmed. Locker rooms are uniformly spotless. This is the only gym facility that i would even consider taking a shower in! The classes are great and so are the facilities. I recently completed physical training sessions with one of the trainers and was relatively pleased. He could have been a little bit more attentive. All in all-I am definitely happy with my overall experience and look forward to my future workouts.
