You will be happy if they are out of what you came in for (a frequent occurrence....they are always out of routine items) because what is there is overpriced and sometimes spoiled. Unfortunately, you have to walk a few blocks to get to much better alternatives, which I assume is how such a bad store can stay in business. If you have the energy, walk south to D'Agostinos or West Side Market, and if you want a sandwich go to Milano's. There have been decent food shops in this spot before, and maybe at some point these guys will move on and we'll get a decent store near the campus again.

I rarely have received any sort of courtesy at Morton Williams. Extremely rude staff. Yesterday, as usual, the cashier said absolutely nothing as I unloaded my basket, but then said, referring to the basket, "you gotta put that over there." I said, "excuse me?" "Put that over there." NO please would you, or anything.
Please try to shop somewhere else

Morton Williams seems to have a policy of hiring only the rudest staff available. All of them seem bored and unhappy to be there. They won't even bother with a "Hello" or "How are you?" when you approach the checkstand. If you get a disinterested and mumbled "Hi," its a good day. The store rarely had everything I'm looking for (and its not like I'm looking for exotic items, either) and the prices are a lot higher than the D'Agustino store down the street. I believe that this store only continues to turn a profit because many Columbia students are too lazy (and I'll admit, somtimes I'm one of them) to walk the 5 blocks to D'Agustino to find a somewhat friendlier staff and prices that are more reasonable, at least in terms of Manhattan pricing.

I had really high hopes for this place when it first opened. It was clean, bright, and conveniently located near Columbia University. But the prices are ridiculously high. I rather just order food online from FreshDirect for less and have it delivered to my door instead of overpaying and dealing with the grumpy employees and aisles so narrow that you have to hope no one comes in the other end before you make it through. It's fine for the basics like milk and bread, but stay away for large shopping trips.

If I could give zero stars, I would.
Morton Williams is horrible in every way.
I could overlook the fact that the aisles are too small, the prices are too high, and that it's jam packed with students at all hours *if* at the end of my trip I was greeted by a smiling cashier. Hah. That is laugh out loud funny.
You'll be lucky if your cashier speaks to you, even luckier if they speak to you in english.
Honestly, rudeness must be the number one job qualification to work here. Even when the store manager is looking over their shoulders, the cashiers are still rude. Nobody cares.
This place is awful, awful, awful. Avoid.
