Orwasher's is another old New York business. The family-owned bread bakery has been at the same Upper East Side location since 1916. While it no longer has sawdust on the floors (as it did in my own childhood) the bread is as fantastic today as it's always been. Because everything is baked fresh daily, it's best to get your bread in the morning, to asure the best quality and the softest rolls. I particularly recommend the onion pockets (in regular and jumbo size) and the raisin cinnamon bread. Wonderfully, their website provides photos and ingredients lists for all of their products. Not listed on teh site is their small selection of dessert items, that usually includes kosher choices as well.

Kelly & Ping never disappoints me with their authentic dishes. The interior is decorated with south Asian everyday items, and it has a very high ceiling with big fans with make you feel like you are actually in Taipei or in Bangkok street. The orders come out really fast and you can see the cooks cooking the food in front of you. Its a little pricey compare to the other Thai/Vietnamese places. This is my favorite noodle place in Soho.

Murray’s prides itself with sourcing the best cheese in the city. So its no surprise they also make fine sandwiches like the smoked mozzarella panini ($5.95). Basil, sun dried tomato and balsamic vinaigrette top sumptuous cheese from Joe’s Dairy. The chef then uses a panini press to melt the sandwich to perfection. Murray’s has an inviting bench out front of their shop for those who just can’t wait to dive in!
There's also a mind boggling selection of cheese to purchase by the pound.

This lovely French chocolatier is a fantastic place to spend your Valentine's Day. With everything decorated in pink, and chocolates and great food, what's not to love? I guess the prices are kind of steep, and the cakes look much better than they taste, but the rest of the food in the small cafe part of the store is surprisingly incredible. Sit down, feel French, and enjoy the day with your sweetheart.

Eli's is famous for it's bread which is wonderful. Eli's Manhattan is a supermarket of gourmet edibles. There are prepared salads, soups, dips, sushi, meats, poultry, etc., with a huge section of cheese, another huge section of pickles, another for olives, meats,. The bakery is outstanding. It's fun to look, less fun to buy, since the prices are very high. I enjoy looking around and picking up a thing or two. There is also a new gelato stand out front!

More
There is really not too much difference between the Ben's delis. This is the first time I had eaten at the one on 38th Street in Manhattan. It is an attractive restaurant, although it is not typical of a deli, which to me has less atmosphere than this location (it is on the elegant side for a deli).
The menu is quite extensive--almost like a Greek diner. There are dozens of deli sandwiches--things like corned beef, pastrami, tongue, etc. There are pickles, pickled green tomatoes, and cole slaw on the table. But there are also salads and things we do not think of as typical deli fare.
The service was on the slow side, but I was there with seven other people, who did not all come at exactly the same time.
In short, a nice deli experience.

Katagiri is a gem. It is a Japanese grocery store, carrying just about every Japanese food item you can think of, and many that you've never heard of. Don't be intimdated by the Japanese packaging (most of is imported from Japan)...just about every product has label in English that explains what it is and it's nutritional values. Fish days are Monday and Thursday, so go on those days for the freshest fish. They also sell delicious sushi and snacks if you want to pick up a quick nosh instead of fixing it yourself. The staff is helpful but will also let you walk the aisles for as long as you like. The Q32 bus stops right in front, or it's just a couple blocks up from the Lexington Avenue Subway stop.
