I am traveling all over the world for business and every where I go, my clients and colleagues are making comments about my clothes.
Now I am wearing shirts, suits and coats by Beckenstein's Men's Fabric Czar.
The craftsmanship, attention to the detail and service are excellent.
Beautiful hand made the best fitted garments.
Nothing fits me better.
Selection of the fabrics just unbelievable.
I highly recommend Beckenstein's to all my friends and family members.
They make you look and feel like a Prince, and I do not mean ?The Artist, formally known as Prince?.
Just wanted to thank you, guys again for the great experience I have always have with you.
Pros: the best clothes money can buy
Cons: Traffic in New York

New York manages to be the harbinger of some many unusual niche stores. Tender Buttons is no exception. Around for almost 50 years, it specializes in high quality, handcrafted, imported buttons. The workmanship is superb, the selection extensive, but the prices high. To replace the buttons on a dress shirt with pretty mother of pearl ones, expect to drop between $10-20. Leather buttons for a jacket come in at around $15.

The staff is professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. The reupholstering of my chair and ottoman was done in a timely fashion and the workmanship far exceeded my expectations. I originally chose them because of their longstanding excellent reputation and their very fair price. Highly recommend this company.
Pros: fabulous reupholstering job and great staff!
Cons: none

For those of you out there that might sew or knit, you MUST visit this store. For yarn, after visiting so many shops in the city where a skein or ball of yarn costs upwards of $20, this store has just about every major brand, or something comparable for a lot less.
They sell basic hardware for knitting and sewing (needles, cutters, etc.) and TONS of ribbon, BUTTONS, and thread. Check out their zipper selection - every size you need, and a back room full of fabrics.
HIGHLY recommend checking out this store to save some money if you're a craft-person.

If you're like me and love to walk into any knitting store, you will feel right at home at The Woolgathering. I learned to knit there, have spent many hours working on patterns, and just dropped by to chit-chat. A great knitting store and much more!

My friend and I hunted down this knitting shop and were delighted that our hard work paid off -- this place is a wonderful shop for both inexperienced and seasoned knitters. It's a bit hard to find (odd location tucked away on an upper floor within the midtown junk district), but the doorman of the building was very helpful when we asked for directions ("Right upstairs -- just press 3 in the elevator!" he beamed). Once you stumble inside, you have reached a small but roomy shop filled wth amazing yarns and tools. Knitting projects are presented in funky and creative ways -- this is not your grandmother's yarn shop -- and the staff are hip, helpful and lots of fun. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to get started learning to knit, as well as to experienced knitters looking to spice up their standard projects.

From their real screen door to their hand written patterns this place is like a trip out of the city. Cozy, friendly. No fuss. There is plenty of room to wander around in, not cramped as some yarn stores tend to be. They carry an extensive selection of basic (Lamb's Pride) to luxury yarns (Several brands of cashmere). On display are sample items - from sophisticated lace mitts, through appealing and funky hats and scarves down to some of the cutest kids sweaters I've seen. I don't know any children but I wanted to knit some of these. Shoot. So I bought sock yarn.
Pros: Great color selection within each line of yarn
Cons: really? not one.

I bought a vintage coat from Cheap Jack's Vintage Clothing http://www.judysbook.com/members/JWC/posts/2006/8/419662/ which was a fur coat with leather cuffs...but since I altered the coat from a single breast to a double breast, I was in the need of 6 new buttons.
Where do I go?
Where do I go?
I went to M&J Trimming Co. confident they would not disappoint. I could not leave without finding some unique buttons since the selection is so vast...if I cant find it here, then I'll be in trouble. On the wall of buttons: categorized by material, sorted by size and grouped by color...I finally found leather buttons with small metal crest details in the center. Beautifully made buttons that actually looked of vintage quality.
I was ecstatic to find them and doubt I would have found them anywhere else. Aside from a great selection, this store is also well organized and customer service is satisfactory.
