Went to Osteria Al Doge tonight to dine with a date and it fulfilled and surpassed all my expectations! It had been two years since I had last dined there and it is as great as I remember. Our first interaction was with the hostess, although we didn't have a reservation and walked in off the street she went out of her way to arrange a table for us with only a few minutes notice. After being seated our waitress approached, the immensely charming and constantly smiling Maria, who made us feel immediately comfortable and at home. When I asked for a wine suggestion she suggested a bottle that turned out to be superb! After ordering our mains we settled in to chat and enjoy the atmosphere. In my experience restaurants can be vibrant or can drain the life out of the evening depending on the staff and decor. Everywhere around us people were truly enjoying themselves, smiles abounded, conversations were lively, La Dolce Vita was certainly alive here!. Our courses arrived and each was delicately balanced, abounding in flavors that weren't weighed down with heavy oils or sauces, pure, simple, and obviously made with the best ingredients available. The whole time the staff was attentive to our needs neither rushing us (we were there for three hours), nor making us feel unattended at any time. This is certainly hard to find in New York where more often than not the waiters try to speed towards dropping the check and turning the table. We finished our dessert and said goodbye to the table next to us who we had shared a few laughs with. As we made for the door there was our waitress Maria, still smiling and exuding such a positevly wonderful energy that my date and I were helpless in resisting a big goofy smile that carried us out the door and down the block! I highly recommend this place for a date, dinner with friends, or a party I'm sure you will love it!
Pros: Great Service, Staff, and Atmosphere

I live in Westchester, so going into the city for dinner is always a treat. I love the dumplings at Noodles on 28th. It's a bit small inside the restaurant itself, but I guess that is the norm for the city. Great atmosphere, great staff, and great food at a reasonable price. I highly recommend it.
Pros: Food is great, inexpensive, great staff
Cons: seating is tight.

I go to this place as often as I can. The prices are reasonable, the service is quick, and the food is just great. Since Happy Shabu Shabu closed, I think this place has the most well-stocked sauce/seasonings bar in the city (if you want raw egg you have to ask, but it's free). There can be a wait at times but it's so worth it! I can't say enough good things about it. The only bummer is that recently they have started charging for broth flavoring (japanese or korean) whereas before it was free. I guess too many people (like me) ordered it and just ate the kimchi by itself. I've also been to the Quickly in Flushing and it's just as good and a bigger space.
After doing shabu shabu for several years, I've come to realize that the meat/poultry options are the best...seafood is just too prone to overcooking in this temperature broth. You can order some seafood options a la cart but I wouldn't recommend it.
Overall - if you know and like shabu shabu, this place is for you.
Pros: Food, sauce and seasonings bar, quick service
Cons: Bright lighting and overuse of the color orange make it look fast-foody

The modest, yet inviting, look of the place belies the high end ingredients and fantastic cooking. All four of us ordered fish and each dish was excellent, but the meat dishes we saw coming out of the kitchen looked equally good. Desserts were great as well. There's obviously a very talented chef here and despite the out of the way location I plan on going back to what is now on my top ten list in NYC, you should make the trip too!

I have been to many a restaurant hunting for a really good paella, and The Hudson River Cafe definitely nailed it over the top!
From the presentation to the extravagant portion, this dish is unbelievably delicious. There is a generous mix of lobster, mussels, shrimps, clams, scallops like no other paella. The dish was enough for two, but it was so tasty that I ate it all before my boyfriend could get more than one or two spoonfuls. He enjoyed the pork chops which he also raved was delicious. For appetizers, I recommend the calamari salad and the tuna and salmon tartar.
In short, this is an excellent place to enjoy a great meal in the magnificent outdoors. Thank you, Burst, the service was superb!
I
Pros: Service and great food
Cons: ?? really there are none.

I've been dropping sporadically for the last 6 months and I must say the food is FANTASTIC. We've never had a bad meal there. The raw bar is great; they make great fresh cheese puffs; and the entrees are imaginative and outstanding. Even their weekend brunch menu is great. Attentive service and reasonably priced for Manhattan. A MUST for anyone in the Seaport area!!!

I've been to Parlor several times and I think it needs to be put at the top of the list for the Upper East Side. Great service, friendly staff, sleek layout and of course excellent food. I know that I'll be taken good care of when I go whether I'm with a large party or for an intimate dinner. I would highly recommend it.

I recently stumbled upon this place for a friend's birthday celebration. It is cozy with a classic european kind of feel. The staff was friendly and attentive. I had the octopus to start, which was great. I followed up with some delicious snapper. The chocolate cake was the best i've had in ages. If you're looking for a crazy scene, this probably isn't the place for you, but for a mellow or romantic dinner with truly tasty food, definitely check out pao.
Pros: Kind staff, cozy ambiance, great food
