My kids come here and get lost for hours. The owner is also very nice and sometimes performs tricks for the kids. Try leaving the store without buying something.

So plan early for the best selection and for your sanity. Also make sure you call ahead, their hours are rather limited outside of the Halloween season.

If you want to throw any kind of party or are a theater person, Abracadabra is the spot for your costume and prop needs (especially if you are interested in horror -- they have fantastic masks). The prices are better than some of the other costume shops around the Union Square area. I love their wig section - wide variety and good quality. These wigs will last beyond one night. They carry a large amount of kids costumes in addition to their adult section. It is a bit chaotic, so prepared to be overwhelmed by the volume and choice.

They sell stuff such as coin tricks, fake finger slicers, books, and other gag items. Its a pretty fun store to go to and look around. It would probably be a great place to go for Halloween but I'd imagine it would be packed with pople.

Abracadabra is one of the few places for costume shopping in New York City. You can almost describe it as a warehouse. During the week leading up to Halloween, the store becomes a little messy, and you will have to dig through the stock. Prices are not that great for what are offered, so I prefer shopping in Ricky’s instead.
