Burger Joint, buried behind a curtain in the back of the lobby of the Parker Meridien Hotel (but smellable throughout the first floor), used to be a great place to get a quick, simple meal well done. However, too much hype has made the place simply impossible to patronize any further. Show up any time you want--you won't wait less than a full 20 minutes to get your food (a good rule of thumb is, if the line is inside the door, you *might* consider waiting it out). Plus, they have raised their prices at least 30% since I first went there--what was once a $7.50 meal of a burger, fries and a drink will now run you at least $12. And hey, it's just a friggin' burger. Go up the street toward 7th to the Teleon Deli and get essentially the same thing in half the time for less money.

because you have to walk through the marble atrium of Le Parker Meridien Hotel to get to this restaurant. And then you get here, and no matter what the full name is, it's just a burger joint. But that's a good thing, because they concentrate on the food, and not on the neon signs and the other stuff that doesn't matter. This is a no frills place and the food really shows it...and I mean that in a very, very good way.

Fun place to take someone visiting from out of town.

For the uninitiated, the Burger Joint can be hard to find. It's actually located inside the Parker-Meridien hotel with no direct entrance from the street. And even once you're inside the hotel, it can be tricky since it is literally a hole-in-the-wall hidden behind a curtain with practically no signage. Then, once you get inside, don't be surprised if you have to wait in line (you order fast food style from a counter) and can't find a table, since there are so few of them.
So is it worth the effort? For these burgers at these prices, absolutely! According to many folks (including my brother), the Burger Joint has the best burgers in New York (the fries and milkshakes are great too). And the prices simply can't be beat.
The Burger Joint is an absolute must for cheap eats lovers. And if you can't get a table, remember that Central Park is just a couple of blocks away.
