My dad is totally obsessed with this diner. Tolerable service, great food and the perfect diner menu make it a model of tasty efficiency. When a tourist wants to see the real New York, just take them here, as it's more authentic than anything else they're likely to stumble on -- and more satisfying. Great pancakes!

the Sunday brunch or just walking in and ordering your usual. I would put this in the running for one of the best diners on the Upper East Side just on portion size. Oh, don't get me wrong, the food is divine. But I love eating and being full, yet still be able to take home enough for a completely separate meal the next day (or later that day). It makes the good food that much better to be able to enjoy it twice, but only pay once.

I had to give the Silver Spoon an extra star because it is the only place open beyond 10 pm for 40 blocks between 3 avenues. I know this because one night we were looking for a cup of coffee and walked uptown from 28th and Lex all the way to 60-something and 2nd and this was the first place we could find. Yes, it's a diner with anything you could want and the food is fine and the coffee is good. It's a nice place that feels and tastes exactly like a diner.

Silver Spoon is the neighborhood diner that always gets our business. Huge portions for reasonable prices, a super friendly staff, and solid food. Not a destination restaurant, but if you live on the East side in the Upper 60's or Low 70's definitely recommended.
