My favorite museum café, located in the Neue Galerie. The art's not bad, either. More

Cafe Sabarsky has many things going for it, including German/Austrian food that is actually delicate (such an an open-face ham sandwich on wheat bread with mustard, fresh shredded horseradish and paper-thin pickles), lovely coffee and tea service, a wide variety of desserts and a stunning room. Brunch is always mobbed unless you go right when they open, and they are only open for dinner (and then only until 9) two nights a week. They do periodically have cabaret concerts paired with the dining experience -- these are quite pricey, but the performers are first rate (Ute Lemper is a semi-regular) and the room intimate. This is a great hidden gem of the city and it's a true pleasure to be able to dine in one of Manhattan's great old mansions.

then you will love it here. I can't imagine anyone that doesn't like streudel (including me). I like it once in a while and thisis a good place to get it. They also serve food food, but I only go here for the sweets. For some it might be too sweet, but in my mind there is no such thing. it is quite authentic here, and you owe it to yourself to try the coffees, you might change from Starbucks once in a while, especially in the warmer months.

This beautiful Cafe in the Neue Galerie on Fifth Ave is not only gorgeous, but surprisingly relaxing and inviting. The staff is polite and accommodating. The food is amazing and don't get me started on the dessert. Once you've gone once you'll find many reasons to go back again and again. Oh, and it's also a museum devoted to Austrian and German art. Now if that isn't enough to make you want to stop in for a visit, how about they serve Elderflower soda. Hey, don't knock it until you try it.
