The fries are just amazing! Easily the best in nyc. It's better to order to go though, since it's a very small shop with not many tables.
Pros: great fries!
Cons: small store

Drunk - Pommes Frittes is awesome.
Sober - Go somewhere else
Pommes Frittes is one of those late night spots to get some fried goodness after a long night of drinking.. you dont notice the lines, you dont taste anything due to the all the alcohol you drank. except you think its awesome. I went one night with a few of my friends. and was really excited to get some pommes frittes .. and I wasn't really thrilled. Their sauces are good, yes, but the fries themselves are not tasty at all.. they're very bland and nothing to rave about. But if you're out of town give it a try. Thats what the experience is all about.. waiting on that long line, and sitting next to some strangers crowded in that hole in the wall fast food joint.
Pros: Sauces
Cons: Fries are OK

What else can I say? The fries are made fresh. Not fresh from a frozen package, but fresh as in the potatoes are cut right in front of you. The staff is friendly and efficient. They try to make the wait as short as possible without being pushy and they let you sample the sauces. As for the sauces, try them all. I have yet to come across a bad one. Nothing beats walking through the village, hangin with friends eating a cone of fries! It does get crowded and seating is limited, but don't let that stop you from going! Its soo worth it!
Pros: Great fries, open late.
Cons: It's almost always crowded, but that's cause its so good!

I was so excited to actually get to visit after seeing this location on the Food Network, but was greatly disappointed!! The fries were terrible (i have had frozen fries that were better). Forget about trying to sit down and eat unless you want to sit on a strangers lap. Staff isn't very helpful with menu either. Save your money and go to the golden arches.

They'll be a wait for the fries at Pommes but defnitely worth it. The fries are regular type of fries (kind of greasy but aren't most?) but my 4 stars goes to the different type of sauces. We had our fries with the Mango sauce and it was delicious! I would recommend this place for a quick snack on the go.
Pros: Great place to eat fries with different choices of dipping sauces
Cons: Tight spot

I was so anxious to go to Pommes Frites after reading the rave reviews about the fries. So in Sep. 2007, I finally went to the East Village after years of visiting the area. The place is so tiny, I walked 4 blocks past it. Then I turned around and walked back the opposite way and found it. Oh Brother! what a disappointment. I should have kept on walking, right down the subway steps!
The lady behind the counter let me try a few tries for free with 4 sauces. I had the pineapple sauce, teriyaki, garlic and mango. I ended up liking the mango and pineapple sauces.I then ordered the small cone of fries. They were already fried and she fried them again in what looked like a wok filled half way with oil. I had the order to go. As I was walking down the street towards the subway, I started to eat the fries dipped into the sauces. The sauces were so good, I couldn't believe that I didn't miss ketchup. It actually tasted so much better than ketchup. Now the reason why I give the place a low rating is because the fries taste like nothing. They are really no big deal. They just taste like plain white potatoes that are over-fried and kind of greasy. It's the sauces that are a big deal. Actually Burger King's and Wendy's fries taste better and cost a lot less.
Even frozen Ore Ida fries have way more flavor.
Pommes Frites--overhyped!!
Pros: friendly service
Cons: bland tasting fries

As avid travelers and lovers of frites in Europe, we couldn't wait to try Pommes Frites in NYC. We saw a profile on the Food Network of Pommes Frites a few years ago which made it look so fantastic. Wow, was it ever overrated!
Authentic pommes frites in Europe have a clean and crispy taste - these fries/frites tasted like they were fried in dirty oil that needed to be changed days ago. Also, their fritessaus (euro mayo) was old and spoiled tasting. We shared a medium size and didn't even remotely finish it. Maybe we just weren't drunk enough?!?
