I gotta tell ya, I am very confused by the friedlander review. We already had a reservation to eat here and was just double checking the adress when we came across his review saying the food was bland...We actually thought about not coming but figured after so long waiting to check it out, why not just go. So we did. And it was great. We asked the waiter to recommend some "hits" for us and so we had the tuna, the sashimi and the mozzarella--all totally delicious. Then we had the rabbit, the bass and the arctic char. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I mean totally perfectly. And the sauces really made the food jump off the plate. They are not timid french style sauces, in fact, they kinda had the kick of a thai or vietnamese sauce, but there wasnt too much on the plate and they were complex and captivating. The desserts were really good also. We loved the place and definately recommend it.
Pros: Elegant food with real flavor
Cons: a bit out of the way

Let me say upfront that I think the location is very nice, the decor is beautiful and the staff is extremely pleasant. But the entrees I had there (September 25) were completely tasteless, and I don't say that to be hyperbolic. I really mean it had no taste.
A world-traveling businessman friend of mine was in town and wanted to have some exceptional New American cuisine. Perry St. was recommended by another friend (not much of a friend, apparently!), and I was exceptionally embarrassed when the restaurant failed to live up to ANY reasonable standard of excellence with regard to its food.
The presentation was fine, but each entree had no taste. NO TASTE. It was like eating unseasoned tofu that had been made up by some genius to have the exact texture of the Rabbit and Bass we thought we had ordered. The sauces on these dishes were overpowering and did not rescue the blandness of the flesh.
TO BE FAIR, it was pretty clear from our waitor that the restaurant was known for its meat, but neither my guest nor I wanted to eat beef, so we chose unwisely. Our appetizers were: a Sashima dish doused with so much gross citrus dressing that the snapper had no taste; Tuna (sushi grade, but not especially fresh) covered in something crunchy (this was the most tasty item on the menu, only diminished by the sauce around it, which was basically the kind of thick Russian dressing I like a lot better with a kosher turkey sandwich).
DESSERT: The coffee was weak, but good. The chocolate mousse was OK.
For $170+, we could have done better. MUCH better. This place needs to bring the cusine up to snuff with the decor. I can not believe Jean Georges is behind this place.
Pros: Decor, ambiance.
Cons: Food.

Food is divine - especially the lamb entree. Space is gorgeous, if a bit out of the way. Service was solid. Biggest problem was that we waited almost an hour after our reservation - not really acceptable for a restaurant of this caliber. BUT, the hostess comped us all of our drinks at the bar where we spent the time waiting for the table (probably almost $100), and she was very professional and apologetic. I'd go again in a heartbeat. I'm guessing the reservation issues were a blip. Ate recently at Bouley and this is miles beyond for less money.

My wife took me to Perry St. yesterday to celebrate my b'day and to say that I had a good time is an understatement. We were seated promptly by the hostes, who greeted us with the best smile I have seen in a long time; the cocktails were very good, not too sweet, not too strong. I had the Ginger Margarita and it was excellent.
I had the house made mozzarella chese with hairloom tomatoes as an appetizer and it was delicious; I proceeded with the halibut for entree; it was soft and came with a citrus-like sauce which gave it a kick unlike many halibuts I've had before.
The service was super attentive, not rushed and very casual at the same time; it was delivered as if it was second nature for them.
In all, this is an excellent place for a date, a small group or a couple who just want some quality time in one of the less pretentious places south of 14th street.
Pros: Unpretentious place, all about the food, supreme service!
Cons: Your meal, after all, has to end at some point!

We did not have a reservation on Labor Day weekend, and just walked in at 6:45. The place was empty, and the front desk couldn't have been nicer. They were very friendly and accommodating, seated us right away, welcoming us. The food is the star here. Not huge portions, but certainly enough. We started w/ tuna in a cracker crust, frisee salad w/ peaches, fried wasabi and goat cheese, also a delicious heirloom tomato salad w/ mozzarella. All excellent. Our entrees, fried rabbit and the simple halibut were also excellent. Each bite a surprise of flavors. Service was very nice. The place filled up after 8pm w/ mostly tourists, it seemed. The decor is very sleek, chic modern and minimalist, though extremely comfortable leather seats. We bumped into friends who wanted to sit with us at our table and just have 1 drink, however, the hostess informed us that it was not aesthetically proper for the restaurant, so would we mind moving to the bar area. She was quite nice about it, but that was my only complaint, the place was not warm, a bit stuffy & tight. There was ample room for them to join us, but they didn't look right crowding our table, though I do understand. The bar is a big bore, so don't bother hanging out there, go only for dinner, it is worth it. Neat location right on the busy Westside Hwy w/ great views. Great place for a date! Food is worth it alone.
Pros: Excellent food
Cons: a bit stuffy and cold in feeling

Perry Street was good from start to finish. It's a beautiful spot with a great view of the sunset on the Hudson River. The restaurant has a very modern feel with a geometric carpet and bare white dishes set with simple silverware and a little bowl of sea salt. The menu is lovely. We went for lunch during restaurant week, which is a great deal. They had wine specials with bottles for $22, which is unheard of in a restaurant of this caliber. The food gets high marks for presentation, but even higher marks for taste. The crispy crab was simply delicious as was the black cod. There were both bold and subtle flavors to the dishes, but nothing was overwhelming. Desserts were really good and the coffee foam on the cappuccino looked painted with expresso melting through it. Service was sublime and I will definitely go back!
Pros: So good so good so good
Cons: a bit expensive for the average bloke

The place was wonderful and the wait staff very patient. (not most knowledgable, but polite and patient) I had the soft shell crab for appetizer and the lobster entree and both were flavorful, but the accompanying garnish was a tad too heavy on the vinegar. I would have probably added a bit more butter to the lobster ansamble, but overall the evening was wonderful. Didn't try the dessert (my friend did and liked it) but the wine list was good.
I think the main thing about the place is still the interior design. Clean and inviting. We started our dinner around 7 pm and by 9 they were packed, but not loud.
The restaurant is great for business dinners (you'll definitely impress them) or an intimate dinner for two. They are still young and still lack some of the finess of the more established places, but it's not for the lack of trying.
Enjoy your adventure, the place will be around for a while!
Pros: location, presentation, attentiveness of the staff
Cons: flavors need a little fine-tuning, some dishes too acidic

Came here last week with family and had a good time. The food was very good. Try the softshell crab and tuna appetizers. The entrees were beautifully presented and everything tasted good. The service was a little spotty, but it's a new restaurant. The only thing that was questionable was the weird intermezzo they served--what was that? It was like a weird tasting salty cantelope? They may want to rethink that one.
Pros: Cool atmosphere, good food, trendy
Cons: spotty service
