Went for restaurant week and were treated excellently (big difference from Abboccato the night before where it was like the unwashed had walked in) Our waiter was wonderful- not intrusive but there when you needed him with bread, water and wine- we even had our butter refreshed! The menu was great- the risotto was a meal in itself but we went for the short ribs as well- perfectly (but surprisingly) paired with spagetti squash. The desserts were excellent as well all though I favored the chocolate cake. Diverse wine list in tate and price. Normal menu was pricey but not unreasonable for the area and atmoshpere. Location is the West Side Highway which leaves a bit to be desired you can see the river- if you look past the lanes of traffic! As a side note- I did not find anything overly salted- unlike many prior reviewers. Perhaps the menu has changed a bit to modify this complaint.
Pros: Service, food, atmosphere
Cons: Location

..Unlike some previous recent reviews .our Restaurant Week lunch was SPECTACULAR!! I'm a big fan of JGVs places so I've been looking forward to dine here for awhile despite the mixed reviews well.. the only bad part of the experience was trying to find parking around that neighborhood..but right before we were about to give up and use a garage..we lucked out BIG TIME and found a spot we could squueeeze into on Perry Street less than 50 yards from the restaurant. The hostess was very friendly and checked our coats and found us a nice table near the bar. The room is a Calvin Klein sleek with beige, brown, and white tones. There are beautiful free standing banquettes that must be fun with a large group. The Winter Fest menu was $24 per person and included choice of two dishes plus dessert. My friend and I both had a delicious crusted tuna first course seared-cooked perfectly although the crumbs used to dress the tuna were a little large. It caused too big a crunch and was a bit distracting, yet, it did not over-influence the flavor of the dish. The service was well orchestrated. Out main waiter Ian was very cordial and he was backed up by no less than four other assistants. We ordered a bottle of FIJI water that came in a matching square decanter. The staff always replenished our bread plate, reset napkins if you stepped away from the table, replaced silverware, and kept the water glasses filled. They also brought out food in teams and placed the plates down in unison..a nice touch of room sweeping. For the entree I had a delicious beef tenderloin with a yummy savory side of butternut squash dumplings. My friend had the red snapper entree which she devoured almost as fast as I ate mine. During this course we ordered a nice glass of Brut champagne at a reasonable $9. Dessert was the standard but "heavenly" baked chocolate cake with the warm molton ganache center accompanied by a rich, creamy vanilla bean ice cream. Two thumbs up! Total bill was $83 before tip.
Pros: stellar service, impeccably prepared dishes.
Cons: difficult parking.

I went to Perry Street on a Sunday for lunch with 5 others. The service was perfect and the food was amazing. I highly recommend it. It was so hard to choose what to order that I will have to go back soon to try other items. And the amouse bouche they brought out for the table was wonderful.
One thing to be aware of, this is a restaurant where you go and have a very leisurely lunch. They do not rush you. We were there for around 2 1/2 hours and the other tables that arrived around the same time as us were there for an equal amount of time. So don't expect to rush in and out. It is definitely a meal to be savored and enjoyed.
Pros: The food and ambiance is wonderful
Cons: None

I took my mom there for brunch. The menu (while not your typical brunch fare) was exciting and the service was perfect. The brunch prices were totally reasonable AND a mind-alteringly delicious dessert was included! We were worried that the portions were going to be tooooo small but they were just perfect. I needed a special place to take my mother and this was just spectacular. I really can't say enough kind words about the service and cuisine.
Pros: great food, perfect service, gorgeous atmosphere
Cons: only ate off the brunch menu, cannot vouch for dinner (which I'm sure is great!)

We were treated like garbage by the host and maitre d'! Though there were plenty of tables available, they refused to seat us. Though we did not have suits, we all were wearing button down shirts. I will not visit this restaurant again...if I am going to spend upwards of 75 bucks on a meal per person, I expect to be treated with respect.

Camer her with my sister for her birthday. First of all, the entrance is on West Street, not Perry. The menu on menupages is outdated. The meal starts with some sort of weird "drink" which tasted more like a sauce in a cup. It was thick and salty i forget what the waiter said it was supposed to be). I had the shrimp ( i think with saffron sauce?) as an appetizer which was good but salty. It was 4 or 5 shrimp butterflied with a pc of really dark toast on top ($15). Entree was the Sea Bass ($32??). It came with some french fries on top ( but of course they didnt call it fries on the menu). Fish was decent, fries were good but the sauce was again, very salty. My sister started with the crusted tuna which was really good ($12?) and had the lobster entree ($45) which came with peruvian purple potatos. Her entree was good but the lobster was really just 2 pcs of lobster claw. We shared the fig and raspberry dessert ($9). This dessert was a trio of fig things. The fig tart/cale, whatever you want to call it was really good. The sliced fig was ehhhh. The raspberry/fig sorbet/ice cream i hated. Total after tax (without including tip) came to $140. Overall it was nice but not good. I don't think i will be returning. Nott worth what they charge. VERY SALTY. The crowd was also much older (40's-50's). I'm 26. :)
Pros: decor, service, tuna
Cons: unisex bathroom, salty food, atmosphere

Four of us went to celebrate a birthday. It was inviting, nicely done, you could hear yourself think and you could listen without straining, okay so it got cold, they seemed responsive when we asked if they could warm it up. Two of us ordered chicken soup, looked at each other and agreed it was awful, too salty, weird, and asked them to take it back. The amuse bouche was better, a tiny bit of beverage with wasabi. Main courses came, again all too salty and not refined. My lamb chops were unpleasant. I ate half the order out of hunger, not desire. Tasted another person's steak, not at all wonderful, my husband's fish (didn't want another bite), the vegetables were non-descript and not worth anything. Service was okay but one person's meal was delivered to another, not what you expect at a restaurant of "this caliber". Desserts had too many ingredients, but I asked for a plain chocolate pudding without the coconut, was told it would come with cake underneath, which wasn't the case. The carrot cake was awful. We felt it was a huge and costly mistake, yet another of those places that get good buzz and you wonder why, regardless of how many people are in your party, nobody appears to have ordered correctly. The hostess was pleasant and the setting is fine but I would never go back or recommend it. Main courses are upwards of $30, which merits better preparation.
Pros: On the river, pleasant ambiance
Cons: The food, the prices, being ripped off
