I have not yet had the opportunity to dine in the main dining room, though I must say that I cannot wait as I hear from just about everyone I know that the service is impeccable. Instead, I will settle for a review of dining in the bar. I had one of the best cuts of beef I have ever eaten in my life last Saturday night (and I eat steak at least 3 times a month). Not only was the filet juicy and tender, it had the most delicious potato puree on the side. My other half was only a bit peckish, so chose the vegetable sandwich -- a large meal in itself! Roasted veggies with strong cheese on a delicious, but messy foccacia-like bread. The dark chocolate pot-de-creme was a disappointing end to the meal (just pudding, but with delightful creme fraiche), but the Ethiopian coffee was not...the large pot was just what I wanted after such a satisfying meal. No wait at 7:30p on a Saturday night in the summer...something to love about Hamptons season in New York.

I've been a fan of Gramercy Tavern for a long time, and despite what you may think, you can afford to go there. Their tavern room (the front room where the bar is) is a no reservations space, with an abbreviated, but still excellent menu. From the $23 fillet mignon to an assortment of other dishes that change seasonally, all their food is flawless. Additionally, they do a wonderful cheese plate (you choose the number and type of cheeses) and charming, comfortable desserts. They also have a stunning wine list and a strong selection of beers and ciders, as well as liquors and after dinner drinks. Most notable about Gramercy Tavern, though, is the service -- extraordinarily attentive, never intrusive and never oppressively formal, you almost don't notice your waiter is there. I've eaten here dozens of times and no one has ever been snooty with me, gotten an order wrong, or otherwise done anything to make me want to tip less than 20% (or more). The Tavern room is suitable for romantic occasions, as well as friendly, family or business gatherings. It's also especially pleasant for lunch. And while it seems unnecessary to say in New York in 2006, they've always been extremely gay friendly to me and mine. Additionally, I have also dined alone here several times, and have always found pleasant conversation at the bar, both with the bartender and other solo diners.

The service here is solid. You have to understand that a bulk of your price is going towards the excellent service you will receive in this restaurant. The food was also very well done. I had the scallops to start, while a couple of people with me started with the fois gras. The scallops were of a good size and extremely tasty. The fois gras was said to be too rich, but otherwise done very well. I had salmon as the main course, the sauce was very good, quite rich. The best part of the meal probably was the dessert. The peach tatin - peach tart with black pepper ice cream. This was unbelieveably good. An odd combination, but after tasting it I was convinced. This place is very expensive, and you have to be willing to pay the large sum of money to really enjoy it. If you are wondering whether it will be worth the $150 per person then you shouldn't come, because you will be preoccupied with how much you are paying. If instead you know you want to be at a great restaurant and know in advance you are willing to pay for it and can put the cost out of your head, you will have a great night.

It's gotten rave reviews and it's the place to go. If you're lucky enough to get a reservation, you'll enter to a fabulous tavern room, warm and comfortable, with a beautiful bar area in which a less expensive menu is served. The crowd is sophisticated and casual and the contemporary American food from chef Tom Colicchio's kitchen is fantastic. Dishing up new American and Continental cooking, this is a grill. Expect the average entrée to cost over $20, and there's a prix-fixe menu at $62 per person.

It's always wonderful, food is always delicious, and everyone should go to Gramercy Tavern if they are in New York. They also give you a nice muffin to take home for breakfast the next morning :) cheaper option is to eat in the tavern.

Gramercy Tavern is one of those places you could bring a date or your parents. It's impressive without being ostentatious. The service is impeccable and the food is award-winning. Danny Meyer is a genius. Honestly, I've had almost everything on the menu and it's all good. With fresh ingredients and skillful hands come high prices so don't expect a bargain. Also, getting a reservation is difficult. My tip? Show up and dine in the casual bar area in front. The tables there are first come-first serve, so if you're there by 6:30, then you should get a seat. All in all, a great restaurant sure to impress. Great for expense accounts if you have one!

This was probably my best dinner in the year since I’ve moved to New York City. The staff paid close attention to our preferences and made sure our meal was exquisite, as they served tasting plates in between our main courses. Each course was carefully prepared and exceptionally delicious. The luxuriant atmosphere made us feel completely relaxed and pampered as we dined. Any choice on the menu will be impressive, but whatever you do, make sure to get the chocolate soufflé for dessert.
