Amazing works of cooking chemistry those little soup dumplings are. Steaming hot they oooze flavorful broth right into the well of your soup spoon. Be sure to let it cool before slurping it down, it is a hazard of dining here to scald your mouth on the first thing you taste--kind of ruins the rest of the dining experience. So, proceed with caution, but do proceed. They are worth the hot mess. Other favorites include spinach perfectly sauteed with lots of garlic and crispy beef; sliced into thin strips, battered, fried and tossed in a sticky sweet sauce. This restaurant is a rare mix of authentic food and tourists. They couldn't keep the secret, but it won't disappoint anyone looking for "real" Chinese food.

i LOVE the pork steamed buns. love love love them... i don't order the crab and pork steamed buns anymore, but they're really quite good... i LOVE the jellyfish...i love the soya duck... i love the ham and winter melon soup, i love the hong kong hot and sour soup... i LOVE the shredded eel with chives... i LOVE the spicy buffalo carp fish belly... i LOVE the braised sea cucumber with shrimp roe... i LOVE the salt and pepper jalapeno white fish... i love love the braised pork shoulder... i love love the lion's head... i love the eggplant with garlic sauce and pork... i love the shredded pork pickled cabbage vermicelli soup and the subgum noodle soup.... it's a huge menu with lots of awesome dishes. i tend to stray from the "traditional new york chinese" fare like sesame chicken but i've had a bite of it and it's really quite good... the service is quick and very friendly... i like the communal seating... i haven't got up the courage to buy a tshirt and/or hat yet, but i'm going to one of these days... this place is fun and i cannot go often enough (lord knows i've tried)...
Pros: awesome food, great value, amazing selection
Cons: it's on pell street!

It was a trek into Chinatown to find this place, but it was definitely worth it! We went on a Saturday for lunch, be prepared for a wait on the weekends. The soup dumplings are the best. We also had the Shanghai noodles...they were excellent but eat them fast before the get cold and too chewy. The scallion pancakes were our favorite. Quick service and they give great recommendations.
Pros: great food
Cons: long wait

This place lacks major ambiance, so it makes it up in excellent cuisine. The crab and pork soup dumplings have me eating pork again, they are so good. The braised shrimp and mushrooms are excellent, I didn't expect it to be so yummy. The food has been as consistently good as it's service has been laxed so I get over it. I don't mind sharing tables with strangers, because sometimes, its the only way to get a seat... go in with an open mind, an unfazed attitude, and order the crab and pork soup dumplings, you'll be glad you did.
Pros: crab & pork soup dumplings, cheap good food
Cons: ambiance, crowded, and unfriendly wait staff

my friends and i went to this place for lunch on a saturday and the wait to get seated was about 20-30 minutes. and, because the place was small, we had to share the table with other diners. that being said, the food is great! the pork shanghai dumplings were soooooooooooo good. the pea shoot was also yummy. we had three orders of the dumplings (for 3 people) and it was well worth it. our table neighbors had the braised pork. they also had some noodle dish. they said that it was good. the menu is extensive so there are a lot od things to try. but, if you try this place, you must have the shanghai dumplings.
Pros: dumplings, dumplings, dumplings

We specifically came here to have shanghai dumplings (soup dumplings) and between three girls, we stuffed our faces with about 40 dumplings! They were delectable! We also cleansed our palate with a plate of pea shoots, but unfortunately we just didn't have room to eat more - even though I really wished we could have ordered the green onion pancakes, the braised pork.... next time i will be less greedy with the dumplings!
Pros: Dumplings!!!! Efficient Service
Cons: A bit of a wait

Its all about the soup dumplings here and as many folks will testify that waiting 45 minutes - 1 hour to be seated at a table full of strangers and to endure terrible service may very well be worth it. I've never seen more non-Chinese in a restaurant before besides Wo Hop, but this tops them all. At least the soup dumplings are delicious.
Pros: Dumplings, Food, Prices
Cons: Service, Long Wait, Crowded
