I ate at Zen Palate a few times during my year of strict vegetarianism and my experience is mixed. There are a few items which were always outstanding but often when I tried one of the specials, they flopped. I've found that the dishes with sauce tend to be soggy and often unpleasant. The noodle dishes are often excellent and I can't recomend the key lime pie enough. The great location at the east side of Union Square does make it an idea stopping off point for an early dinner, but I would recomend getting there early as it can get rather crowded. If you're ravenous while in the area and prefer strict vegetarian dining, its worth stopping in. Otherwise I'd suggest making the trek out to Angelica's Kitchen, Kate's, or Red Bamboo.

While the food at Zen Palate is neither spectacular or that interesting, it's a good vegetarian fare at a good price. The restaurant has a pleasant environment and the food is well-seasoned enough and not salad focused so that most meat-eaters can find something they'l be happy with. It's a good compromise destination.

Vegetarians flock to this spot for well priced meals. Even a devoted meat eater would be pleased by the heartier options (love the seitan). The outside tables are popular in nice weather as they give diners a glimpse of Union Square. Inside the place is huge. Teas and other non alcoholic beverages offer a nice alternative to wine and beer if you are going for a healthy outing.

Zen Palette is one of the finest vegetarian restaurants. They serve a modern Asian blend that is completely animal friendly. The at least 3 NYC restaurants are all out of this world. ZP is one of the few upscale veggie friendly place out there. The prices a little high but not bad by NYC standards and the desserts are as good as the entrées.

I used to be addicted to take out from Zen Palate, kidding myself into thinking that it is not junk food because it is made out of tempeh. But this kind of food is sooo hard to digest, as I am not sure what it is made out of. But it is really fun to order from, quick delivery and the fun sectioned off to go boxes that your meal is placed in. But the food is hit or miss ranging from as addictive as crack to totally inedible.

This is a real hip place, always packed but decently priced. Interesting variations on walnuts and tofu to make basically veg dishes you can get at a take-out place. Come for the atmosphere and location, because the food somehow to me is lacking. Upstairs is a higher quality restaurant but also a much higher price. If you want to meet with some friends on your way home from work, then maybe try this place if you get there early enough.

I heard alot about this place before I came. How great it is. I have eaten there several times and it isn't bad. For guys who eat alot this may not be the place for you. For me it was fine. The food seems very healthy, with brown rice and veggie ham. I ordered the Shredded Melody from the Prefixe Menu and it pretty good. My friend ordered a pasta dish which was not filling for him. They have other locations, maybe the union sq. location isn't the best one.
