I was so excited to bring my boyfriend to Rice to Riches because I knew that he loves rice pudding. Much to my chagrin , I found that the service there to be quite cold and unpleasant, much like their pudding. The workers look annoyed if you even dare to ask them for a little spoonful to taste their flavors. And, you BETTER like the flavor that you choose, because you will get a lot of it, and not at a great price either.
Pros: the coconut-oatmeal topping, cleanliness of the store
Cons: bad service, little seating

I happen to like pudding and rice pudding a lot, but recently took friends here who don't even like rice pudding and loved the place. It is expensive ($5 without a topping for a small, though a small is enough to share), but I guess for NYC it's not a total outrage (and you'd probably pay about as much for ice cream). The place is a total gold mine and is usually rather crowded (they do have a decent amount of seating, and if the weather is okay there are some benches at the dumpy park across the street). The array of flavors is fun (fruity things and cheesy things and chocolatey, etc.), and you can be creative with their assortment of toppings. My biggest complaint is that their takeaway containers, while lovely to behold, are made of a very thick plastic and seem environmentally unsound. The spoons are funky, too. Place is very clean.

We stop in there everytime we are in New York. I even order it off the website. I was hoping they would franchise so that I could open my own Rice to Riches shop here in my hometown but so far they have not.
It is really worth the ride downtown to get some and I love the containers.

Pros: lots flavors
Cons: non-biodegrable

I don't really like rice pudding, but this restaurant in New York City serves only that! It's so colour full and fun, that I had to write about it. Rice to Riches looks like an ice cream parlor with different flavors of pudding and even free samples of their many different offerings. Portions are served in this neat plastic containers that are reusable and come with a lid if you have left overs. I tried the "Chocolate Bear Hug", which tasted like a Rocher chocolate if you've ever had those. I like it because it tasted the least like rice pudding! But if that's your thing, then this is the place for you. They have funny sayings and signs all over the place, and they will overnight ship rice pudding to anywhere in the US! Even the website is just silly. Check it out and order some for the rice pudding lover in your life: http://www.ricetoriches.com/index.2.php

Fun futuristic atmosphere, dishes, and attitude compliment a great selection of flavors - but is the pudding really up to par? I've had better texture & taste in quite a few other spots. Pricing & massive quantities are also a little ridiculous unless going with a group.
Pros: Fun & flavors
Cons: price, quality

This gourmet rice pudding place is immaculately decorated. Everything is steamlined, clean, and high-tech. It's a small place but never feels cramped. They've got every flavor of rice pudding you can think of, from cheesecake (my personal favorite) to rocky road and french toast flavored. The pricing is just as streamlined as the decor - $5 a bowl with similar nice round numbers for bigger sizes. Definitely worth a trip downtown to check out, even if you're not a huge rice pudding fan because it's a fun place.
