New Green Bo is always super-packed and you'd have to wait forever just to get seated, so I usually phone in my order (or order when I get there) and my order is done in no time. My New Green Bo staple foods include the pork chop over rice, the steamed pork dumplings, and the ma por tofu. I love the sauce and vegetables that come with your rice orders. New Green Bo has some of the best and cheapest Shanghainese food in Chinatown.

It is basically a good Shanghai place where the dishes are really big. They served various things from rice, noodles, dumplings, soup, and rice cakes. my friends usually goes there and orders their noodles, duplings, and rice cakes. Their Shanghai noodles are really good but a little too much oil used sometimes. the atmosphere is really energetic. People talk really loud in the restaurant, and if you are looking for a quiet dining experience then it might get a little annoying.

This place serves much more customers than it can hold. Good Shanghai style restaurant with pretty good Steamed Little Buns (Shiao Lung Bao) and good noodle soups (Pork and Preserved Vegetable Noodle Soup). Appetizers are also good. However, expect to wait 10-20 minutes on the line for spot, especially on nights and weekends. Good place for lunch.

There was a brief time in my life when I was eating 'gourmet' Chinese food nearly everyday--the kind of Chinese served bejeweled with gold flakes and real flowers and spooned morsel by morsel onto your plate by an army of immaculate and efficient servers. Even though I regularly saw people drop more than my NYC rent on dinner for two at this particular London eatery I remember more than once thinking. . . I could get this dish, sans the bells and whistles but with all the taste, for a fraction of the price--if only I were back home in Chinatown. While it's true that Asian cuisine in London consistently underwhelmed me, (sorry blokes British food is still nothing to write home about Jamie Oliver or no!) part of the truth is that NYC simply has an abundance of cheap, but tasty Chinese food--and Green Bo is above average for its price range. The veggies are savoury and fresh, the sauces familiar, but somehow better than what you thought you knew. As others have pointed out, Green Bo excels at dim sum, packing their steamed goodies with generous amounts of homemade goodness. If you go for dumplings go earlier in the day, as they become overly dry and leathery by the time they get served in the evening (even so they're better than average). The rice, which must be ordered seperately, tends not to be of very good quality, the tea the usual Chinese dive brew, and the presentation is nonexistent. Service is also apathetic, but efficient. HOWEVER nobody really cares about these things, because they're too busy stuffing themselves full of Chinese dumplings. Average (vegetarian) meal for two with beers and tip about $25-30

Friend visiting from out of town? Bring him/her to NGBo for the ultimate Chinatown experience. NGB is known for its soup dumplings, which are made fresh to order, right in the window, and SO good. They are like dumplings with a little bit of soup inside. You put one on a ladel, pop it open, add ginger sauce, and enjoy. I haven't enjoyed my other dishes (moo shu chicken, a couple others) as much as the soup dumplings, but they alone make the place worth the trip. Check it out!!

Shanghainese restaurants in chinatown are all over the place. Fueled by the new craze of soup dumplings everybody is dying to try these wonderful treats. Made famous first by Joe's Shanghai, New Green Bo makes a equally enticing soup dumpling, with the same great regular pork soup dumpling and other menacing varieties including the crab meat pork soup dumpling. You have to go back there several times to have tried them all. But it's not just the soup dumplings that are good, but the care that goes into each dish. Every dish comes out piping hot and flavored just right. I recommend the shanghai rice cakes or pork meat with shanghai thick pan fried noodles!

I am sure I am not the first to discover this plain looking restaurant on a street full of look alikes, but I am so thankful I did. We tried this last Thanksgiving for an anti-holiday meal, and we have been going regularly, taking all visitors to the area with us. They have the best dumplings I have ever tasted--my husband prefers the fried pork (that perfect in between of crispy and chewy) and I always order the steamed vegetable (filled with the most intricate blend of greens). Both can be tricky to eat (impossible to eat neatly), but are worth every ruined shirt. In addition to that, this place specializes in the perfect scallion pancake. We haven't tried much in the way of entrees--the spicy peanut chicken is excellent--the dim sum alone will fill you. We also don't usually drink, because it is more fun that way when you get the bill and feel as if you have gotten away with something--two people can stuff themselves for a little over 10 bucks.
