I went to the dinner at Felidia last night and had the most AMAZING dinner. They had local farmers in from upstate NY who brought local produce and meats. It was the freshest food I had ever tasted. Everything was just really perfect. I spent a lot of time talking to the wine director who gave me some really great tips on picking wines that will pair with food. I thought for sure that he would try to sell me the most expensive bottle but he didn't he recommended the most delicious wine I believe it was from their owners label and it was under $40. Perfect first experience at Felidia I will definitely be back.
Pros: Food and wine

The worst!
The servers stood around, talking and looking at themselves in the mirror. The salad was a disgrace, a bag of frisee with other vegetables to be seen. I would have settled for an olive in there. The pasta had to be sent back, it had a funny, sour taste, not the diablo sauce I ordered. All in all, a nightmare and not a cheap one. I will never go back and would warn anyone else to stay away.
Pros: Nice woodwork
Cons: Everything else

Disappointing. We were a family of 8 New Yorkers, mostly Italians, good cooks. Love Lidia's books, shows, recipes, but choice offered us was uninspired and limited (only tasting menu was available because of size of our party.) Outlandishly expensive, including $7 per bottle of water. Lovely wait staff, but would not go back.
Pros: service
Cons: menu, price

I went there with my husband.
Felidia had nice atmosphere. There are authentic furniture and red lights make the mood nicer.
At first, I felt this restaurant must be good. As I thought, food was not bad. I ordered shurimp rock with lemon garlic sauce. It was baked in oven. It was really tasty. But my husband plate was not so good. He oldered sea bass carpaccio. There were only three slices and a few asparagus. It's too expensive, I think.
Anyway, pasta that we ordered were avarage.
But I felt service was so slow and bad. After we checked menu, waiter didn't come to ask order until we call him. It took more than 10 min that he came...
After we had a dinner and finished check, and when we went to cloakroom, it happened.
The cloak lady asked to pay two dollars for each as tip!!
My husband gave her two dollars that he thought he would pay for me as well as himself.
But she must have thought I also would give her two dollals.
And she said to me that I also should pay.
Ofcourse I know two dollars are tiniy and I don't care about the price
but I think she is so mean and greedy!
At that time, I decided not to come back to Felidia. They have too bad service.
Pros: nice atmosphere
Cons: slow and lazy service

We decided to try Felidia again - maybe we were just unlucky on our first visit. Well, after a long wait, 30 minutes, for our 8:00 reservation we were seated at a great table upstairs which really beats the main level due to the "Tokyo Subway" effect of the waitstaff shuffling about the tables. Service was efficient, but we seemed to have four waiters. The wedding pillow pasta was divine - lots of citrus, very fresh and delectable. The bone-in pork loin was overcooked and completely dry to the point where even a steak knife wouldn't cut through it. So the grill guy went on break maybe, I don't know, but that pork was DEAD.
The after dinner tasty sweat treats were divine - A for effort, but with so many other choices in town, the restaurant needs to do better on the layout and food quality to garner a return visit.
Pros: Location
Cons: Inconsistent Food

I hadn't been back to Felidia for a few years and was in the neighborhood last Thursday night. I managed to get a table with no reservation. The food was better than ever. I had the Bianco Neri with Calamari which was out of this world for my appetizer and then I had the Cod with Tuscan bread soup for an entree. This place certainly still has its magic after so many years. Give it a try if you haven't been there in a while or try it for the first time, it wont dissapoint!
Pros: Food, Food, Food
Cons: Too many wines to choose from, need help from the Sommelier

that pear and pecorino-filled ravioli is awesome, I should've ordered it as an entree though the soft shell crab special was delicious as well.
my only gripe about this place was when I made the reservation 2-3 wks ago, they made me give a credit card to hold the reservation and when I called the day of to confirm, the hostess was very rude and said there was no reservation etc. and damn near close to hang up on me. after making me spell my long last name 10 times, she finally figured out the person who took the reservation initially made it for June 29th instead of may 29. thankfully she said not to worry, that there would be a table for us when we got there, but she never apologized for being rude and not wanting to help at 1st. she?s lucky I didn?t see her there when I arrived, I was ready to get stank
Pros: food
Cons: hostess

After watching Lidia's shows we ended up at Felidia. We were greeted but we were not seated for 5 minutes. Five minutes later she asked us to follow her and she took us upstairs. I don't mind going upstairs but our mother is 89 years old. After reaching upstairs mom wanted to wash her hands but bathrooms were two flights downstairs. Everyone in the staff looked at my struggling mom and laughed at her.
We spent 30 minutes waiting for a table and mom to get climb steps back and forth. Finally we ordered drinks and before we received our drinks we were told our table was reserved. We were not happy but we moved. We received our drinks but this time no one served us water. Our table was very uncomfortable, staff was running around and bumping into our chairs.
Finally when we received our first course and it was great. My main course lamb was over cooked but we didn't say anything. I told waiteress it was mom's 89th brithday but they didn't do anything. No candle and no one from the staff wished her happy birthday.
We spent over $500 and left very unhappy. BTW: 2 people sat at the first table and seems like everyone focused on them.
Sorry Lidia, you won't see us again.
Pros: food
Cons: service, over cooked meat, bathrooms and steps were dirty and slippry

I strongly disagree with the posted negative reviews. On May 10, 2007, we enjoyed a SUPERB dining experience at Felidia -- GREAT food (especially the pasta and game), terrific and reasonably-priced wines (with the help of a very accomodating sommelier) and very attentive service. We'd rank it among our best NY dining experiences overall (and the price was quite reasonable as well, considering all the above). Brava, Lidia!!!

This was my fourth visit to Felidia and undoubtedly the last. The service is consistently tired and seems to lack any enthusiasm, or coordination. Although the food is unquestionably excellent, the space is utterly horrible - not a single table in the cramped brownstone seems immune from the constant traffic in and out of the kitchen. The rustic atmosphere is more suitable to an irish pub than a fine restaurant. The 60+page wine list is extensive, but guest selections are tasted by the sommelier before being served - a practice that some may find condescending (not to mention expensive). The room is tired and the basement rest rooms are what one would expect in a Manhattan pizza joint and not in a place like this (one needs to navigate past a prep kitchen). Our tab for 2 with tip was well over $500 and, while I was in the ladies room, my companion was asked to pack up and leave because they needed the table. He was embarrassed. I was humiliated to return and find him in the foyer, coat in hand. I could understand this completely if it was a pre-theater seating, or if we had lingered. But we ate quickly and each had a single cup of coffee. I don't think that, at those prices, the additional 1 minute it took while I was at the ladies room was worth the offense. I think the $1,500, or so that I've spent in the last several visits would merit better treatment, but for now it's Ciao Felidia.
Pros: extensive italian wine list. Dreamy handmade pastas.
Cons: Inconsiderate and indifferent staff. Tired, cramped room.
