went there last week for lunch, the only thing i can find that i did not like was the service at the bar, even though there were very few people sitting having lunch at the bar, i was rushed to order, i wanted to sit and just take my time, but the barmaid kept asking me if i was ready to order, the food was excellent, much better then rolf's on 23rd and 3rd. there is no comparison, the only other thing i can say that is negative is that they don;t fill your glass all the way up to the top when you order a drink, in other places they fill it up all the way. i go there every chance i get when i am up town its expensive but worth it. Pros: food excellent but expensive Cons: bar service could be much better

My favorite is one called Killepitch, but be careful, it packs a whallop! Insider Tip: The food here can be pricey, but the best deal is the "Bar Bratwurst" and the "Bar Potato Pancakes". You get a great meal for about 10 bucks, as long as you don't mind eating at the bar. Pros: Great Beers, Awesome German Food, Outdoor seating/smoking/drinking area Cons: Food is pricey, they close early during the week

I came here once with five other family members. I had actually visited Germany last summer and as soon as we walked in, I felt as though I were transported right back to Deutschland. The walls were panelled with dark wood, Germanic decorations adorning them. The waiters were clad in the traditional German lederhosen. Beer was served in giant stines and 2 liter "boots." There were giant sausage platters, heaps of saurkraut, and potato pancakes galore. I ordered the Wiener Schnitzel a la Holstein (w/ a fried egg, anchovies, and capers). We also ordered a plethora of delectable side dishes: potato pancakes, saurkraut, German potato salad, etc. For dessert, I could not shy away from the Black Forest cake. All of this was certainly what one could call comfort food. The others in my party loved their meals as well. It was the perfect place to eat on a cold winter night. Our waiter was extremely friendly and even performed a magic trick of sorts, much to our amusement. I highly recommend that one should loosen their belt and sample the fare at the Heidelberg Restaurant. Pros: Great German cuisine, Amusing waitstaff, Wonderful atmosphere Cons: None!

This is the last remaining outpost for traditional German style food and beverage on the U.E.S. and I pray that it may live on for many years to come. Nothing particularly fancy here...just good basic German meat and potatos served by a waitstaff dressed in traditional folk attire (read lederhosen and heidi dresses). This is not food for the calorie/fat conscious crowd. This is a place to pull up a chair and get fat and happy.
