Delicious food. Great prices. I loved the sushi sashimi salad and the coconut shrimp appetizer. The pad thai wasn't good. I sent it back. They are understaffed there, and it is very crowded. It is not a place to go if you want privacy at your table. Overall, this is a good place.
Pros: food, price, location
Cons: slow service, crowded

I have been to Republic numerous times and was aware of the communal seating arrangement...today, I arrived with my fiance for lunch and we were asked to follow the hostess to the center of a communal table. Although, we noticed that there was an empty table, where we could have sat alone. We asked for this table and the hostess RUDELY rolled her eyes and said NO. We repeated that we wanted to sit at a different table and once again she repeated NO with an attitude. My fiance and I eat out a lot and I have NEVER been treated so horribly by a hostess. I will now never step foot into Republic again and I would advise the management to teach their hostes some manners.
Pros: The fast food service once seated
Cons: The hostess to the main dining area.

The food is very bland and the service is very mediocre. The servers who are there seem to do a good job but they are grossly understaffed. So they repeatedly close huge sections of the restaurant. But they still try to pack the place in. We had 7 people sitting next to us in a space built for 4. On asking the manager why they couldn't be seated at one of the many many empty tables, she explained their lack of staff and said, "really, the food isnt great, so the only reason we are stay business is because we are on union square." Not worth going to. Plenty of other places on union square.

The service is fast and the food is great. The restauraunt has a very communal feel. You share your table with other parties but you are never cramped. The prices are perfect and a dinner for two with appetizers was 40 bucks!!!. I loved it Would come back again. Try the Grilled Calimari and the Frid Wontons
Pros: Fast Service, Great Flavors

I thought that with a very unique decor and environment that this place would be amazing. Their location is convenient but their food is no better than any other thai place. You pay for their rent basically. Also the service there is less than mediocre. Furthermore I called to make a reservation. Someone took it and then later when I got there they said that making a reservation doesn't make a difference-you wait behind the other people who got there-so there really was NO POINT in making a reservation because you still end up waiting 45 minutes for a table.
Pros: location
Cons: Wait, Service

This is a noodle shop. There's nothing on the menu over $10 bucks. With that in mind, YES it's loud and YES the staff is quick/abrupt but it's CHEAP! Most of the food there is good. Congratulations to Republic for making fast food seem more glamorous. If you want a fine dining experience go somewhere else!
Pros: Location. Quick In/Out
Cons: LOUD. Impersonal. Crowded.

If you want mediocre food and bitchy waitresses, then you're in the right place. The only reason why this place is still in business is because of its location. Sure, Republic put some thought into their lighting scheme and decor, but they clearly forgot to train their servers in manners. I went here with my boyfriend and will NEVER go back. We were both really in the mood for Asian soup & had already been to Zen Palate that week, so we opted for somewhere different. My BF is vegetarian and ordered the veggie soup. The waitress said, "It's a bland soup." Okay, fine... no problem, right? Well, in their terms, bland means crappy vegetables floating in hot water - no joke! My BF complained and the waitress came back w. an attitude from hell. "I told you it was bland." Well, the conversation went on and I asked for the manager. And I thought the waitress was rude...The manager couldn't have been more distasteful. She admitted that no one likes the soup, but we had to pay for it anyway since the waitress explained that it was "bland." I asked, "So why is it on the menu if no one likes it?" She replied, "I don't know. Some people do." And these things weren't said politely - she was practically bitching us out. We paid the bill and walked out, mad and hungry. In all of the fine and not-so-fine dining I've had in my life, this experience trumps any previous bad service. If you're into pretentious people for bargain prices, look no further. I wish we had stayed home and ordered take-out Thai - or better yet, went back to Zen Palate.
Pros: Decor
Cons: Everything else

When I'm in the area and just want simple yummy noodles, i come here. The atmosphere in the restaurant is noisy given the all around concrete atmosphere. Be prepared to share a table since they will seat multiple paties together since seating is on benches. Not a big deal unless you're trying to have a private conversation, but then again you wouldn't do it here anyhow. The drinks are good, but pricey compared to the noodle dishes. I always order the steamed vegetable dumplings and glass noodles. I've also had a beef/pork dish served over black rice, but I don't know if they have it anymore. It was very flavorful. the only thing I've had there that I didn't like was the watercress salad. It was just too bitter for me.
Pros: cheap eats, good value, flavors
Cons: noisy
