This is a great spot for paella, but not the best paella by any stretch. Of course, if you've never eaten paella in Spain, especially Valencia, this may be wow-worthy for you. We got the seafood paella and the best part of paella is the crunchy crust at the bottom of the pan. well, there was no such thing.
And another thing, for the owners, when you have a party who's spending a couple of hundred dollars on their food and drinks, you don't charge them $3 for hot sauce on their bill. Have some class! Ok? Thanks
Pros: food
Cons: explained in post

I love this place! The food is so tasty, and the Sangria is the best I've ever had. The staff is very polite and friendly. Also, the restaurant as actually open from noon every day, not 5:30 pm as mentioned here. I went in the afternoon. I would imagine at night it probably gets a little tight in there. But the ambiance is nice too.
Pros: Food, Ambiance, The best Sangria
Cons: a few blocks from subway

This restaurant is great, i don't know what the reviewer below is talking about but he must have been in another place thinking it was la paella, the sangria is not watery and i would say it's pretty strong, they don't put ice in it like in many other spanish places, the shrimp and garlic plain?? humm.. and the paella too?? well taste and colours can't be argued but in this case, you must be tasteless to say that!! anyway the food in general is tastefull and the paella is a must to have as well as the sangria. i have been going there for few years now and i never been let down.
Pros: paella, sangria, tapas, ambience
Cons: the tasteless guy below!

Total ruin my NYC trip with its bad and expensive food. Sangri was like water with some apple pieces. Shrimp garlic plain as well as their paella marinera. I could do better If this is called authentic spanish food. Service was good thou because there were only 3 groups of guests on a Sunday night.

My boyfriend and I went to La Paella a little after 5pm on Saturday and saw the post outside the restaurant for Early Bird Special. We were there for the Seafood Paella originally as recommended by one of the NYC value eat books. We ordered the special instead which was $16.95 for each person and you get to choose 1 appetizer, 1 main dish, 1 ice cream and 1 glass of Sangria or 1 bottle of Beer. We had the Gazpacho and green with goat cheese for appetizer, stuffed Tilapia and two tapas for main course. The portion was generous and the taste was fabulous. I enjoyed the Sangria while my boyfriend had his favorite Sam Adams. We went home with a full and satisfied stomach.

I'm not sure what the below review is talking about. I've been going to La Paella for several years now and have never had a bad experience, always can't wait to go back. The food is delicious, surprisingly reasonably priced. The sangria is delicious. The restaurant is beautiful and romantic. I've brought so many friends here and each one has gone back with their friends. THe one thing I can say is not always the best is their host/ hostess, they tend to be a little rude sometimes, which is strange.
Pros: Delish food, sangria and decor
Cons: Eh service

Reading all the positive reviews this restaurant got on City Search me and my partner where more than excited to go there for dinner. When we got there the restaurant was busy but there was prompt seating. We were put in a make shift small table (that barely held our plates) in their bottom floor by the kitchen and bathrooms and next to a dark basement like environment. There was absolutely no romantic atmosphere in this restaurant, and we felt like sardines in a tin can. The restaurant was packed with loud drunk people having b-day parties that further took away any sense of romance and relaxation. Although some of the tapas appetizers where good, the rest of the meal was not authentic. We ate a very Americanized version of a seafood paella, along with an average tasting Sangria, and mediocre dessert.
Overall, I would strongly not recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to taste real Spanish food in a romantic atmosphere. This restaurant is more for people wanting to go out in groups, drink, be loud, and not really worry about the quality of the food, or are not familiar with real Spanish Food.
I will not be returning to this restaurant again.
Good luck El Paella.
Pros: Prompt Seating, Attentive Staff
Cons: Americanized Spanish Food, Loud, No Comfortable Seating Arrangements if you are just a couple. This restaurants is best suited for groups.
