The Etats Unis Restaurant was a pleasant surprise. My wife and I just spotted it one day and decided to check it out. We ended up having an early romatic dinner. The ambiance set the mood and the food was really good. I t was expensive, but definitely worth it for the experience that we had. I have no complaints.

Etats-Unis is sort of tucked away from the main drag on this Upper East Side location, but it is worth finding because it's cute and has good food. The prices are not low, so it's not great if you're trying to save a buck. It's got good food and good service, though, and desserts are really good - particularly the chocolate fondue (although how could that be bad?). It's a fun place and the decor is simple and funky.

This restaurant is pretty basic when it comes to decor (I felt over-dressed when I went), but it's also pretty small and quiet, and a nice place to go if you enjoy the company and want to have good conversation over good food. Like many restaurants, the appetizers and deserts were the best, while the main dish was only so-so; if you go, I'd highly recommend getting the chocolate fondue or cake; it was absolutely delicious. High-priced, but a nice place.

to perfection, I mean. It's a very small place, but I thinkit adds to the ambiance (reservations, reservations, reservations). The owners take pride in their place, which starts thing off on a wonderful foot. Which is picked up by the food they serve, which is simply divine and so well done. And the service is so caring, that if you can afford it, you should visit often.

My husband and I enjoyed a low-key birthday dinner in this intimate dining room on the upper east side last January. It was magical to look through the floor-to-ceiling windows as snow fell that night. The wine list has a lot of interesting offerings. The menu is well-crafted. Service is professional. Tables along the banquet can be close, but I felt right at home.
How do I qualify a great date restaurant? First, it lets me focus on my date (as opposed to fabulous--or not so fabulous--food, decor, atmosphere, service or celebrity guests). Second, it makes me thankful I have a room at a nearby hotel (The Franklin)
Other winners include:

Bouley
P.S. Side-by-side seating is a nice touch, especially on bench seats, if you can swing it.
