Thursday night was my husband and my 10th wedding anniversary. When I called the Red Cat to confirm our reservation for dinner, I told the reservationist that it was our 10th anniversary and requested a good table. She said she'd reserve one of the corner tables. Due to terrible traffic I ended up being 15 minutes late. My husband was already at the restaurant and told the staff I was late, and they were incredibly nice about it, telling him not to worry and to enjoy a cocktail. I finally arrived, and they brought us to our table, which was in a cozy corner of the restaurant. Next they surprised us each with a glass of champagne to congratulate us. That alone would have left me very pleased with our experience. It got even better. Our server was very knowledgeable and helped us in selecting our wine (an excellent sancerre), appetizers (the seared diver scallops and tempura green beans), and entrees (the salmon and the brook trout). Everything was excellent. The sugar snap, shiitaki, and cream corn sauce and the artichoke-cucumber salad complemented the fish wonderfully. Service was nicely paced, and we never felt rushed. All in all it was a wonderful dining experience and a great way to celebrate our anniversary.

Went to The Red Cat last week and was very impressed with the entire experience. Great ambiance, attractive setting.....busy, but not loud and crowded. Had the worst table in the place, but the food and service more than made up for it. I had the "heart-stopper special" (not their terminology.....mine) Seared Fois Gras with Grapes and Nuts.....WOW, and Calf's Liver that was perfectly cooked....pink. The wine list was fairly extensive, and a few items seemed dramatically overpriced, but I had a reasonably priced Malbec that was very good. Oh yes, the cheese plate was an ample portion of 5 selections and was delicious. Overall, this should be rated RR for "Return Running"
Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Service
Cons: Careful with that Wine list

Didn't think getting a table during summer on 10th ave would be a big deal, but this palce was busy! The hostess told us it would be a short wait for a table and we could get a drink at the bar, then sent the other girl over after ten minutes saying due to a cancellation the could seat us now. In a city where I've been treated like the restaurant is doing me a favor, it was nice to be seated right when something was available. The server and food were the best part. He was really sweet, and another table actually took their picture with him. My steak was out of this world and my husband loved his pork chop, although he felt the soft shell appetizer was too vinegary. I tried it and thought it was fine.
My only complaint: VERY loud. Other than that, eveything was great.
Pros: Friendly staff, from door to service
Cons: Too Loud

I feel so lucky to find this NYC gem on my recent trip to the city. I loved the cozy, warm, inviting atmosphere of the restaurant. Everyone we encountered (host to busboys) were extremely nice and our server was knowledgable, sweet, and helpful. We received no pretense when we decided to order cocktails throughout the meal instead of wine. My boyfriend and I started with the heirloom tomato salad , which had wonderful light flavor, and the scallops, which were to die for. The scallops melted in your mouth with the most amazing flavor and a great sauce. For dinner we shared the skate wing. It was very good, a little too citrusy for my taste, but very well prepared regardless. We also had a side of the tempura green beans and mustard which were actually as fun to eat as they were yummy. I definitely plan to come back here when we visit NYC again!
Pros: Food, service, ambience... everything!
Cons: Absolutely nothing

I went here on a Wednesday night with two friends. We didn't have a reservation, but we walked in at 8pm and were seated right away. Between my friends and I we shared the sauteed zucchini, the tempura green beans, the brook trout entree and the paprika roasted cod. Everything was great, but the veggies were probably my fave parts of the meal because they just tasted SOOOOO fresh!

Went here on Saturday night with a bunch of friends, some of whom were from out of town. Such hosptiality! One of our party was late but noone rushed us, by contrast, the entire staff from the hostess right down to the busboy was warm, accomodating, and on their game, letting us drink and relax while we waited. And the food! We all passed our plates around the table and loved everything- the frisee & wild mushroom salad, paella, plump delicious oysters, salmon, steak and a wonderful pear sorbet. After seven years, this place still has the "neighborhood" feel- who says you can't go out in NYC on a Saturday night?
Pros: service,food,atmosphere
Cons: a little noisy

I keep coming back here, and every time I leave happy. Although the menu is not extensive, everything I've tried has been great. I've actually been to this restaurant so many times that I've started making "stretch" orders--apps/entrees that I wouldn't normally go for, but since I've tried everything else already, I test them out. Even those meals are tasty, and they have opened my eyes to new alternatives. The beet tartar is a must try. The only additional comment I would make is that the restaurant tends to get a bit louder than you would think from the quiet decor/layout. I don't consider that a negative, but if you're looking for a very quiet place for romance, then you may be a little surprised by the decibel level (which I think is probably just the result of happy clientele).
Pros: Excellent, well-priced food
Cons: None

Rude, pretentious, and haughty hostess. Was given a bad attituded when we asked to move another chair to the table. Restaurant was empty but was still not permitted. We were told that this was how things "worked" in nyc. The place has the feel of a corporate restaurant that intends to max out bills and flip tables. If you're in the mood for good food, go across the street to Bottino or Bette. Not nearly the attitude and same quality food.

I had dinner at the The Red Cat tues night and I couldn't believe how awesome my whole experience was. I had to wait for about 20 min for the bar but the two bartenders were so gracious and welcoming. They made sure I got the next available seats. The food was equally as delicious. I had a seafood paella risotto to start. The portion size was perfect! I always want paella but never want to undertake it as an entree. I was so psyched to see it as an app. For my entree I had the NY Strip. That is the best thing I have tasted in a long time. Juicy delicious meat but the sauce, fennel, potatos and tomatos it is served with is just my style of a dish. Can't wait to head back.
