In Manhattan there is a great Italian restaurant called Becco in the theatre district.
They have an extensive wine list and majority of their wine bottles go for $25. It's more value than buying by the glass. They have a regular menu or you can choose their pasta special which includes 3 different types of pasta. This is what I chose. It was delicious. The pasta was fresh and it was cooked correctly, al dente! The waiters come around and ask you if you want seconds.
For dessert, instead of buying individual desserts they also have a dessert sampler. This I highly recommend!!

We were headed to The Producers (Wow!) and wanted an affordable dinner for 2 within walking distance of the theater. My research said try Becco - good value, fresh made pasta and a guaranteed to make the curtain. My surprise was the quality of the "all you can eat" pasta. Three different options (pick 1,2 or all 3) brought hot to the table, right from the pan. The wine was really the surprise - $21 for a decent bottle and they have lots of choices.
Service is excellent - you WILL make the show. Price is around $65 plus tip and tax for pasta and a bottle of wine. Add $15 for dessert - again for two.
The room is tight and the decor is ordinary but the food, location, price (value) is the draw.
Going to the show? Try Becco...

The Bastianich family's (owners of Felidia and Frico) comfortable Restaurant Row outpost has three different dining areas. An old-fashioned bar, stenciled ceilings, and wooden beams give the dining room up front a warm and cheery feeling. In back, the greenish, pavilion room with louvered-windows is smaller and more feminine, and the upstairs dining room, with its neutral colors and a gilt-stenciled ceiling, is more hushed and formal. Becco's menu features C'sar salads, and antipasti, as well as "sinfonia di paste"- unlimited servings of the three pastas of the day, swordfish with barolo balsamic sauce, stuffed peppers, pheasant, venison, and a 30 oz. porterhouse steak. This place dishes up Italian dishes. There is a prix-fixe menu.
