Having read the other comments, I can't vouch for the service b/c we were among the very few customers and there were plenty of servers to take care of us. The food was good/very good, and though the prices were more than I would have expected for the UWS, I would return. Cool decor. Front room looks like a good date spot for drinks and meze.

I was at this restaurant last week with two of my friends. I must say the quality of the food had changed since the last time I was there which was like a year ago. It seems like they have a new and a better chef. Also I must say the service was unbelievably good this time. We were served by this beautiful Turkish waitress who really knew the food she was serving. She gave even the tiniest details about the food. She was elegant and knew a lot about not only the food but she also surprised us by how much she knows about other cultures and history. I know it's not a necessary detail for a waitress to be this knowledgeble but she only made our dining experience better with her recommendations and sweet sophisticated talk. I recommend Turkuaz to anyone who takes the dining experience seriously.

I had been there last Friday with my friends from college. They have traditional section that you feel yourself like a sultan. The waitstaff was very friendly. They prepared a special menu for us and the food was great. Other than the grills, stuffed cabbage and baklava was delicious. The restaurant is designed as a tent and with the belly dancer on weekends it was so much fun for us. We will definetely be back... Pros: Friendly staff and great food. My fiance and I accidentally found Turkuaz while walking up Broadway last spring. We fell in love with the place instantly and have gone back a few time since then. So when we decided to have a pre-nuptial celebration dinner, we naturally chose Tuarkuaz and we could not have been more satisfied. The manager (Hkan) was great in helping pick a menu within our budget and gave us a prix fix menu that had a variety of entrees, unlimited appetizer and the most delicious dessert I have had in a long time. The service was excellent, the food was exquisite, and the belly dancer was great and involved the people in my party. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking to have some good Turkish food whether for a small party or a big event! Pros: Excellent food and service Cons: no private room for party

But I havent found the service here to be terrible or the food to be bad. Never heard anything about a minimum required food order of $30 or had any bad experiences with the staff. I've been eating there for four years and the food quality has been consistantly excellent. The best time to go is for the all you can eat sunday brunch which includes about 40 dishes and costs less than $20/person. I've always found the service prompt and helpful and your water glass is never empty. The chicken is cooked to perfection, the zucchini pancakes are mouth-watering and they have the best dolmas I've ever eaten. My only complaint is that the meze are kind of expensive for what you're paying but you can order three of them and one main dish for two people and be stuffed (and spend less than $50 for dinner including tax and tip!). Just dont order too much at dinner, and definately go to the sunday brunch. I've never had a bad dining experience there yet! Pros: AMAZING food, quick service, nice ambience (as long as its not too full) Cons: Smallish portions for the price on the meze

At first we were annoyed when we realized that the takeout menu we'd been looking at at the bar was much cheaper than the in-house menu. Then the very hot, very talented bellydancer appeared, and everything became clear. The food's really good too.

In a party of 6, 4 dishes were brought out without the rice. When inquired, we were told that they were "out of rice." Without even informing the table, I'm assuming they hoped we wouldn't notice half the dishes weren't complete. Instead, they gave us plates of lettuce as "salads" for a substitute without asking the group first. After persisting, two bowls of rice were "magically" produced. Next to us, a woman was berated by the chef and three waiters after she found a hair in her food. It took 30 minutes to bring out our hummus, and the service was sooo slow. The lamb and okra dishes had almost NO lamb. Would definitely NEVER return. Pros: Ambience Cons: Expensive, Rude Service

Turkish cuisine, which is subtle and complex, is frequently made bland--but never at Turkuaz where delights such as Imam Byaildi and Chicken Yougurtlu Kebab are perfect. A little cheaper at lunch.
