More
The largest Gothic-style Catholic Cathedral in the United States, St. Patrick's Cathedral is not only a NYC landmark but a national one as well. St. Patrick's Cathedral serves as the seat of the Archbishop of New York and it's gorgeous architecture attracts over three million tourists a year. Services do carry on as they would in any church, though obviously the addition of visiting out of town-ers can make for some interesting moments.
Special memorial masses were held at St. Patrick's Cathedral following the deaths of such icons as Joe DiMaggio and Andy Warhol while the likes of Babe Ruth and Celia Cruz have had their funerals here.

I recently had a very good experience here. I was treated very well when I asked for a carved candle, and everyone was happy to answer questions. I could have stayed for hours looking at everything. Beautiful black cats live there too!
Pros: Knowledge, supplies

A masterpiece of architecture, Grace Church is a thing of beauty. The building itself was designed by John Renwick, Jr, who later went on to design such landmarks as St. Patrick's Cathedral and the Smithsonian Castle. It is also one of seven New York City buildings designated by the Municipal Art Society as being of national importance. One look at this Gothic beauty and you'll understand why.
Of course, there's more to Grace Church than it's outer beauty. It remains a fully functioning Episcopal church which welcomes new members with open arms.

More
I’m not particularly religious, but I do consider myself a spiritual person and have a fondness for Episcopalian-ism because it was my great-grandmother’s faith. St. Mark’s is the epitome of the ideal Episcopal church, in my opinion, even if it is not the most traditional. It is welcoming to everyone: young and old, male and female, gay and straight, of all races and all religions. It even welcomes animals once a year during its traditional blessing. I don't usually attend sermons (again, not really religious) but when I have, I've felt absolutely welcome.
St. Mark’s is one of the oldest churches in New York, but it is also so much more. It is an arts and social action center. It is the home of The Poetry Project (http://www.poetryproject.com ) and The Danspace Project (http://www.danspaceproject.org ). It is also a member of United for Peace (http://www.unitedforpeace.org/ ). More than any other church I've ever seen, I can say that St. Mark's reflects and benefits all that is good in its community.

More
B'nai Jeshurun is a Jewish community built on the belief that we must strive to be a kehillah kedoshah, a holy community. Our mission is to inspire and require. We seek to inspire the search for meaning in our lives and the quest for a measure of sanctity in the midst of so much secularity. Rejuvinated by Rabbi Marshall T. Myers in the 1990's, BJ is now led by two of the best rabbis in the world: Rabbi Rolando Matalon and Rabbi Marcelo Bronstein. The third and younger rabbi is Rabbi Felicia Sol. Commited to social justice in every form, BJ is a wonderful place to pray, become involved in international issues and study with other commited Jews who are passionate about changing the world. The best part of BJ is the music: every Friday night the Shabbat Services consist of an evening of prayer and traditional Jewish music. It is a genuinely refreshing spiritual experience that will revive even the most weary New Yorker.

Founded in 1697, Trinity Church is an Episcopal parish located on Broadway, at Wall Street.
It is absolutely gorgeous inside. There is an enormous and energetic choir. Each Sunday, after mass, you get to pass through the back of the church, on a footbridge over Trinity Place, for coffee and breakfast. It is very special and unique the way the members of this parish get to know one another.

Mahayana Temple is a great place to chill out relax and gather your thoughts in a serene quiet place. You can sit down and pray or you can just take in the surroundings which are pretty neat. They also have these boxes where for a dollar you can little rolls of wisdom printed on paper. They are usually just quotes from Buddha. It's like getting a fortune cookie only without the cookie.

I love Eichlers Judaica. If it has anything remotely to do with Judaism, Eichlers has it. The staff is increible resourceful and they have a fully functioning book store that looks as impressive as most religious libraries. They taylor their selection to the season of course and always have very reasonable pricing and some fantastic sales around the holidays. I would not shop anywhere else when it comes to Judaica. This would be my first and last stop. Highly recommended.

More
This is my husband's favorite cathedral in New York City. We actually considered getting married there. Although it is more off the beaten path than say, St. Patrick's -- it is certainly worth the trip. It is a beautiful place -- both inside and out. The grounds and gardens are very peaceful as well. It seems to me that it has been under construction a lot lately -- it's been a while since we've seen it with out scaffolding . . . but it's still worth a trip. The stained glass windows are amazingly beautiful and the many small chapels are interesting as well.
