I've always loved dancing, but also found it to be one of the most mortifying things we people do in public. It's like trying to sing in front of people when you can't carry a tune, or public speaking in a foreign language. There's something really intimidating about it, which is why alcohol helps so much.
I took hip-hop here with Jessica, and she's so encouraging and positive that she addresses half the issue with dancing, which is all in the head. But she definitely knows what she's doing and can help with the technique side of the process, so that you're learning the moves in the right way, too.
This isn't the place to go if you're looking to spin on your head and make a living performing at subway stations. But if you want to learn moves you can actually USE, it's perfect! It's a safe place where you get what you put into it--I've loved all the classes I've taken here.
If you're the type to sit out at weddings while everyone else seems to have a good time on the dance floor, you should invest in a class or a private with Jessica--life's too short! Dancing incorporates so many of the good things in life, like music, fun and social interaction. Jessica brought dance into my life, and I couldn't be more grateful. I took a class with Vicky, too, who is the nicest, coolest, and most encouraging person to have ever kicked my ass. So just go, you'll like it.
Pros: Instructors, price, the overall spirit of the place

Kind of small and up on the second floor these guys have been plugging away satisfying east siders comic book cravings for years. The selection isn't great but the service is A+ , the staff is always friendly and they know what they have. Nothing is cheap here but a block away from Bloomingdales what do you expect. Worth a look see when you are in the neighborhood as they have enough boxes of back issues that they just might have an oldie you've been looking for.

I love Slate. I use it as my venue for my birthday party with friends. People can play pool or ping pong, or sit back in the comfortable lounge areas and just eat and talk. It's also a good happy hour place with coworkers. The drinks are a little pricey, but I really like the ambiance and service. I didn't know about their weekday lunch specials! Great tip!

The Met is truly a must see for anyone visiting New York City.
The Monet collection and the Egyptian exhibit are not to be missed. One could easily spend more than two days at the Met - the building is huge. Do not allocate less than a day for it - there is just so much to see. The admission fee is just the amount they suggest. You can pay what you want to get in.

I love this store, as I'm a big fan of the Nike brand. Their Shox sneakers have been taking the pain out of my physical exercise for years now, so when it's time to get a new pair, this is where I go. The store has the fullest range of Nike products in the city of course, and if they don't have it in stock, they'll source it for you.
Aside from the sneakers, there is floor after floor of Nike clothing for all kinds of sports, from golfing to basketball to yoga. No stone is left unturned here, making it impossible not to walk out with gear that meets your athletic needs.

I usually airbrush at the Portofino on Columbus Avenue, but I was shopping in the neighborhood and decided to hop in for a quick spray tan. Mimi was my technician and she was friendly and thorough. As usual, I was out the door in 30 minutes looking bronze and beautiful. I would recommend any of the portofinos for spray tanning. (i don't use the machines so i am not sure how they are)
Pros: fake tanning
Cons: far from home

Billards has never been my game but for those poolhall junkies out there this is a place to check out. Of course, for the rest of us there is still an attraction -- ping pong tables, a bar and a separate jazz room can keep a person occupied when the mood for billards simply isn't there.

The location of this wonderful museum is in itself worth the visit: it is housed on a retired aircraft carrier, the USS Intrepid. The visitor can wander around looking at how the sailors and pilots lived on the ship during its time of commission in World War II and up to Vietnam. On the deck and in the plane holds, the museum displays decommissioned aircraft that flew in various wars, as well as spy aircraft. In fact, the A-12 Blackbird is one of the main draws of the museum.
To top it off, the museum has recently added to its collection the legendary supersonic civilian aircraft Concorde, offered to the museum by British Airways.
Additionally, the submarine USS Growler also forms part of the museum. There, visitors can get a good feeling of the cramped quarters and claustrophobic conditions that were the norm in World War II conventional submarines.
I would vote this one of the best air and space displays around.

While I lived in Manhattan, I stumbled upon this museum and have been returning to it ever since.
Classic Eurpoean masters have their best works (in my opinion) on display in a private mansion tucked away on 70th Street. From the water garden that greets you to the library that will wow you to the art on display, this is another gem in the museum crown of NYC and not to be missed.
Well worth the extra side trip.
