I lived in an Ely building for 6 years. The building was beautiful and well-maintained, but Ely was a nightmare to deal with. For years he tried to kick me out saying he wanted to convert my apartment to a doctor's office. Know your rights when speaking to him, and bring him a bottle of Kosher wine. Sometimes that helps.

Ely is a crook. After demanding all sorts of guarantees for one of his slum walk-ups, he jacks up the rent on renewals and refuses to return security deposits at the end of the lease claiming all sorts of fictitious damage. He knows that the cost of suing him over a few thousand dollars will far exceed the amount recovered. Typical NYC slumlord. Stick with rentals owned by corporate owners.

El-Kam Realty Co. Agree with previous comments. Eli has no manners and is only concerned about making money. I lived in one of his buildings three years ago, and after assisting him with a legal matter, when I went to renew my lease, he had no interest. I was a perfect tenant. I would never deal with him again.

I very rarely write online reviews, but I took a few minutes out to comment on another review on this site, simply because I'm stupefied that someone could call Ely "considerate". The guy is a complete nut, he will be all smiles one minute, then scream and curse at you the next. This is not just my opinion, but is shared by all the other tenants in my building. We consider him emotionally unstable at best, vindictive and paranoid at his frequent worst. I generally make it a rule not to post anonymously, but I fear reprisals from "considerate" Ely.

Hah! Ely being considerate to his tenants. Just try and deal with him AFTER you have signed the lease or try getting your security deposit back. He will be mean, call you names and start yelling to you on the phone. Abviously the above was posted by someone with vested interest in this firm.

El Kam Realty has a large selection of apartments throughout New York City, all owned by one guy who manages the office. The best part about this management is that they don't charge brokerage fees for renting an apartment since you are dealing directly with the owner. The firm is owned by a guy named Ely who is well known for his consideration towards his tenants. So save yourself the headache of dealing with a broker and call them now.
