This is such an impressive building! Two major tips: 1. Buy your ticket online to skip the first line. There are two lines - one to buy tickets and one for the elevator. 2. If you can't buy your tickets online, go early in the morning. I got there at 9:10am and barely had to wait in ANY lines. I was up at the top of the building in 10 minutes. The night before when we tried to go, the line was 1.5 hours long. Also don't go when it's hazy or cloudy out. It will obstruct your view. Tickets are $16.00 and you can get an audio tour for $6. It is totally worth it to get the audio tour. You could see the entire city. It was amazing at the top of the Empire State Building!

If you have some family in town and want them off your back, send them to the Empire State Building Observatory. Don't make them ask you for the money though. It's slightly expensive and over crowded. Only people who watch An Affair to Remember or Sleepless in Seattle will find it romantic.. these people being tourists

This historical landmark located in NYC has got to hold one of the best views of the city. Take the elevator up to the observation deck and you’ll be astonished by how beautiful New York City is. You have a 360 degree view of it all, its breath taking. While inside take a gander of all the historical photos of the construction of the building, also look for the ones of that menace King Kong. Take your loved ones at night for a truly romantic experience. Try to visit during odd hours of the weekday to avoid the crowds.

After 9/11, this is the only public building to get amazing views of the city. Security is very tight, so make sure to leave any metal objects and bags at home. It will make it a lot easier. On a clear day you can see the whole city. You can wait a while to get up to the top, with all the tourists visiting. But it is worth the wait. There is also an attraction called the New York Skyride. It is a simulated helicopter ride and virtual-reality movie theater.

It's very romantic during the evening and it's nice just to see the different colors displayed on the building (although you can't see those while you're on top).

The view from the top of the Emipire State Building is breathtaking (as long as you aren't up there on a rainy/cloudy day). If you haven't been up in it, it is one of those things that everyone who visits NYC has to do at least once. It is sort of exciting to be in the exact same place where so many movies have been filmed (esp. An Affair to Remember and Sleepless in Seattle).

No visit to New York City would be complete without a visit to the observation deck at the Empire State Building. You can see seemingly forever on clear days, and discern all of New York's landmarks. The admission fee is steep, but worth it. However, don't bother going up on days when the top is in the clouds. The view is the whole show, but when it's on, boy is it on!
Tip: Best times to go to avoid the crowds are early in the morning and late in the evening. The sunsets can be spectacular, but after dark is when it gets really romantic.
