The best thing about Caroline's is that you have the option of seeing brand new talent or someone whose face is recognizable across the country. They offer a little bit of everything here.
Sure, the snacks & drinks can be a bit pricey, but you are in Times Square - everything has a mark-up.
I have had more than a few good laughs at shows here (it helps that I have seen friends rise from the new comic night to headliner position...it makes me believe in the power of Caroline's).

Last night, my boyfriend and I brought a friend to the Stand Up NY Comedy Club. It was really croweded, and the staff stuffed everyone into these tiny tables and seats. After everyone quieted down, the show started. The emcee led off with a funny routine. During this routine, the waitress came by to get our orders, since there was a 2 drink minimum. The rest of the comedians after the emcee were also hilariouis. The three of us couldn't stop laughing, even after the show!
The only downside was the cramped space and expensive drinks. But I would definitely come back here another time.

You are almost always guaranteed a good show once you walk in the door. There is always a cover and two-drink minimum to my knowledge, but you won't get too gouged here. And besides, you are here for the music so it should be worth the cost (cheaper than a concert where you would sitting much further away!).

The Mercury Lounge is a great place to see a show. You can be mere inches away from your favorite singer, enjoy a great drink and meet some good looking people. Only thing that bugs me is that they don't let people in quickly before a show. You have to wait for other people to leave before you can go in. It's understandable though as it's pretty much packed on nights of shows

I have been here on a few occassions and loved it everytime! The food is really good and the best part is the live performances that you get, at an affordable price, its a great, laid back time and am actually going to take a couple of friends there next week.

Live bluegrass - yes (on Wednesdays if I am thinking correctly)! Live other music throughout the week. Baggot Inn is good for the tunes as well as the brews. I recommend getting a group together for pints. If you don't dig the gig in the back, sit up front under the window and just enjoy the bar. It is nothing fancy, but good craic may be found here for pub fans.

This place is very clean and nice. It is not quite as luxurious as some of the five-star hotels in New York City, but it is still a very good hotel. Our room was very comfortable. This place felt like home. The hotel is showing a bit of wear, but it is not too noticeable or significant. The service here is top-notch.

This is a trendy mediterranean restaurant and lounge. The food is above average but my favorite aspect of the place is the cushy seating and fun cocktails which makes this a great place when you want to grab a quick bite to eat and then have a few drinks with friends in a hip setting.

A laid back, homey club, Bowery Poetry Club is a great place to get up on stage and read your written words or just sit back and enjoy the word of others.
There are the big shows that draw the big crowds and the laid back nights where it's all about the relaxed atmosphere. Poetry Slams take place on Thursdays and Open Mic is Monday and Wednesday nights. There's also a two for one Happy Hour Monday through Friday so if you need a bit of lubrication to read your poetry so be it.
