I used to come here back in the day when it was "new-ish" but since the area has been so populated and that is the man stadium seating theater in the area, it's just too packed and uncomfortable to enjoy. I only come here when I really really have to. Making the trek downtown to the Battery Park UA is just so much worth it. It's practically empty down there and less crowded. The only decent thing about Union Sq UA is that once you are out of the movies, you can hangout in the area and there are plenty of places to go since it's in a busy area.

That I find this movie theater to be a passable option only speaks to the generally low quality of movie theaters in New York. Everything is mediocre -- seats, junk food and cleanliness, and some of the theaters are quite small. I should also note that often most of the ticket pick up machines in the lobby are broken, making the convenience of ordering your tickets in advance anything but. It's usually a chaotic experience seeing a show here. And while I've only dealt with rude, talkative audiences at this theatre a few times, they've been so egregiously so on those occasions, I feel it necessary to warn those wanting to see dramas here.

Granted, every once in a while I find myself here because I am in the neighborhood and the movie times match my schedule. But, I avoid it if I can.
I would not buy concessions here for fear of stomachache.

This is another example of the kind of cavernous movie theater that is taking over Manhattan. While it is good for a crowd, and the seats are basically comfortable, with arms that raise and have a cup holder in them, you have to climb multiple levels (with an escalator) to get to your theater. When you get to your designated level, at least the times I've been there, there was no usher available to steer me towards the correct theater. The candy & popcorn are, of course, unfathomably expensive, making it best to bring your treats from outside. Because they have so many theaters, it is pretty easy to get a good seat.
