This is New York's one true (albeit expensive) western wear shop. it is also your source for Stetson hats. While Stetson's can be found at other retailers in the city, the best selection is here and they are happy to order a hat special for you if there's something you're looking for they don't have, or wear an unusual size.

Before Gap and Levi's stores it used to be that kids bought their jeans in surplus stores. Dave's New York is a throw back selling surplus, jeans and industrial clothes. If Carharrt and Columbia brands with their long breakin period are for you then so is Dave's. Oh yeah, did I mention that they have a habit of discounting what they sell.

Zara is somewhat a higher end version of H&M. The selection is narrower, but the quality is higher. what I most enjoy about this store is the quality of the clothes and their fit. Everything I own from there fits as if it were made for me -- I always feel like a movie star in my Zara clothes because the fit is just that good. The clothes have lots of flair without being outrageous, and their women's suits are particularly nicely cut (and fun and stylish and for more than the office besides).

The store is on the corner of the block on the ever so busy broadway. Inside, you'll find that they offer all of the latest name brands from armani to diesel. The store is pretty large, even though it doesn't look that way from the outside. The selections are all pretty expensive, and you don't really get a price break from them. However, they do have a very nice layout in the store. The staff there is more than happy to help you find the right size. They had this white clothing only phase,w here much of the clothes inside had no colors for some strange reason. They also sold shoes, many of the name brand styles too, but they didn't have too much of a choice. I'd go elsewhere if you're looking more selection. Over all, I'd give it a chance, you might find something that you like.

Where else in all of New York can a shopper be greeted with the crescendo of a blasting symphony? This cozy menswear boutique sets quite a different tone, offering muted but distinguished clothes that would suit an English gentleman or a Barney's salesman equally.
Some of the selected designers are familiar--Helmut Lang, Paul Smith--while others--Duffer of St. George, Fred Perry--are more estoric. Trendy London label Duffer's gorgeous wool Paddington jackets are in a class by themselves. Fred Perry offers sporty gear like the rugged and old-school warmup suit here, which looks like the kind of thing an ex-soccer player would wear every day except Sunday.

White walls, a chrome interior and neat displays let you know that Supreme is serious about its thing: skating. Pro-skate videos play on televisions; the store also mounts rotating art exhibits. It's the coolest, most streamlined and well-designed view into this subculture. The staff is knowledgeable and very attractive, which sort of makes up for the moderate level of friendliness. Clientele includes Japanese hipsters who want to be down, pro-skate cuties and the occasional "Kids" cast member (they're everywhere).
The Goods
Supreme offers skateboards and wheels by Girl Chocolate, Zoo York, Infamous and City Stars, and the store will put one together for you for $120. Check out Supreme's cleverly designed in-house brand of T-shirts, clothing and accessories, along with labels like DC, Lakai and Good Enuf. Also find skating sneaks by Gravis and Axion.

Pink walls--in a store that's full of men's clothing? Welcome to the world of Paul Smith, where the consummately British designer injects seemingly stodgy goods (men's suits and other tailored merch) with a heavy but tasteful dose of fun.
Classic, narrowly cut suits are the real draw, in everything from dark navy pinstripes to a shiny tobacco sharkskin. Pair one with a groovy button-down shirt in just about any color of the rainbow--stripes, checks or solids--add a tie, and you're dressed for the big event. Still kicking it corporate-casual style? Check out the divine selection of gifts. There's a tin lighter shaped like a fish, scads of hip books ("Affluenza," funnily enough, among them), cashmere mufflers and Paul Smith's own tableware (adorned with the same stripes that appear on the store's bags).

The upstairs offerings of Canal Jeans aren't terribly exciting or different than the rest of the stores on broadway. You can stop by any of the other storefronts and largely see the same clothing for about the same prices.
The reason I keep checking back at Canal is the basement where the discounted jeans are. The styles are definately out of season and some of the cheeper racks are refurbished but if you're looking for jeans to god forbid, get dirty in, this would probably be your best bet. I've picked up some jeans for $5 a pair. Think I cried when I got chain grease from my bicycle all over them?

More
This is the independent-label version of Stussy, still in touch with the street and even flaunting a social conscience. Jazzy hip-hop beats float above shoppers' heads, and T-shirts note everything from "Planet of the Apes" to Amadou Diallo. Old-schoolers and fashionistas alike will appreciate the roomy (but not club-kid huge) jeans and cords, not to mention the outerwear, some of which flirts with Members Only geekdom but somehow comes off as cool.
Where else can you find terry wrist bands jumbled with technochic silver watches that harken back to the early days of calculators? On a lucky day you might find the camouflage tape used by hunters to wrap their rifles, perfect for making city bicycles look tough.
