Great place to get quick bite.
Cool concept --rotates on a conveyor belt. Keep your eye on what you want because so You can always ask the sushi chefs to make sushi as well. I go there at least 2-4 times a week. It can sometimes be crowded since you are sitting bar style. There's sitting upstairs also.
They also serve other japanese food.

Fresh sushi, pretty strong drinks, a creative cocktail menu and a nice, attentive staff. The frozen green tea margarita is good. The bartenders could be better looking though...hah.
Pros: Mostly everything. Nice, clean bathrooms too.
Cons: Their brunch menu should have a 2nd option of including a specialtly cocktail.. or two.

Service was quick and attentive. Restaurant was not crowded so we were seated immediately but it was a Monday night. Best dish of the night: calamari with ginger sauce. Wow!

This place is one of my all-time favorites. It has any kind of Asian food you're in the mood for, from sushi to Thai. The food is incredibly reasonable, esp. for NY. The dish I usually get is $8! It's immaculately clean and inviting, and the staff is very attentive. There has never been any waiting when I've been there...I almost want to write a bad review to keep people away (lol), but the restaurant definitely deserves the business. Highly recommended!

Hi people I don?t believe we?re talking about the same restaurant.
I went there a few days ago and I loved it!
People were very nice and the food was great!
The chef came out from the kitchen just to explain us the history of the dish and all the ingredients on it!
They don?t have actually lots of liquors but I?m sure you didn?t try them cocktails. Mediterranean and Brazilian cocktails. Lots of different fruits in it?just fantastic!
I found out that the management is changing?so it?s all very new for them and some clients just don?t enjoy the place and chill?
That is a place where you go and relax while enjoying the food and not a place where you go and look at the clock every minute if you know what I mean.

There are a lot of good sushi places in NYC, but something about Japonica's highest quality food, impeccable service, and warm and inviting interior that makes it a special trip even for a neighborhood haunt. Its my favorite sushi in NYC and I love their cooked food, too. The hardest part is deciding whether to get a warm entree or sushi (I usually get something of both!)
Pros: Highest quality food, Attentive Service
Cons: Not Cheap, Long waits

Hakata has excellent quality Salmon and Tuna.
It is very fresh and that is all I really care about.
The other dishes are good as well and the ambiance is also nice, but it would be a little uncomfortable for larger people because the seating areas are smaller.
As far as Japanese food goes, it is one of my favorites in midtown.
Pros: Fresh salmon and tuna, good food, good atmosphere, convenient location on 48th and Broadway
Cons: the seating arrangement is more difficult for large people.

More
I'm Japanese-American and lived in Japan for six years so this review may not represent the average American opinion. However, I often take my friends there (non-Japanese) and they usually love it. This is a great restaurant., but I see that not everybody thinks so and I guess that I can understand why.
First, the service is not great. Maybe it's because they're understaffed, but they're definitely not as attentive as they could be. Because they're from Japan this may be partially attributed to the fact that they're used to being called when needed. Second, the menu has a wide range of traditional and non-traditional Japanese bar foods, and if you're not very experienced with this particular type of Japanese cuisine, then you may not get what you expected. This is not a sushi joint. From the few times I've had the sushi here, I can say that it's fine. But don't come here if sushi's your goal.
When I go to Typhoon, I usually do most of the ordering for the group and they usually love the food. I'll list some of my favorites: chicken kara-age (amazing fried chicken, but be careful of the hot sauce), miso kalbi (beef slices cooked with miso), Saikoro steak (cubes of steak with a great sauce on the side and potatoes), omu-rice (kind of like a rice omelette, hence omelette-rice = omu-rice), korokke (potato croquettes), okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake, but you might want to ask them to hold the katsuo-bushi -- dried bonito flakes).
I like to go with a big group and reserve a private room downstairs. I just think it's more fun to all be in a small room together, but people often get tired of sitting on the floor so it's not for everybody. The temperature control in the restaurant isn't the best either, so it can get a little hot in the summer from time to time. I go for the food, so I can deal with the mediocre service. If you're the same way, then you may become a regular too.
Pros: Probably one of the best places in the city to go for Japanese bar food
Cons: Service is not that great
