I love McAleers! Great local pub! Actually the oldest authentic Irish Pub on the UWS. There are alway neighbor locals, young and old, tourists, a good mix come here for the delicious reliable pub grub, wings, burgers, esp the sw burger, yum! Great beer selection and they serve a very good brunch on Sundays. Why wait in the cold outside Sarabeth's for hours ?? A Plus, the charming owner, Keith McAleer has done a great job in keeping up with the times and the ever changing neighborhood all these years.!
Pros: good pub food, beer, friendly staff, + Keith McAleer
Cons: bathroom needs renovation

Alright, the first stop on my bar tour of NYC is in Murrary Hill on 33rd and 3rd. Right in the middle of the Block is Joshua Tree. This place is a favorite amongst the late 20s, early 30s professional crowd, most of whome you'll find straggling in around 8-9pm during the week (especially thursday) still in suits and ties after leaving lower manhattan and the financial district.
This is a post happy hour, yuppy haven. Most people in this place has money and likes to show it. Expect groups of predatory guys out here all on "the hunt."
The prices are commensurate with the area whic is just a dollar over average or so. The place will be packed early and will clear out early as well. Not an allnighter, but a definitive stop on the bar crawl. The music is typically identified with by the 80s baby. If you were 4 years old when the Muppet show was at its peak, you'll sing every lyric to the songs, although probably in your head because this isn't the place you want to belt out old school tunes. It features a long bar with roughly a 4 foot wide standing space so it doesn't take much to fill the front half. The back half has a smaller bar that's usually unmanned until the place really fills up but has tables. Good luck getting a seat there unles you've been there since LUNCH.
Stop in, check it out and move along to places with more to offer.

I took my son to a Magic Show at the Snapple Theatre on Broadway & 50th Street this evening and decided to go for a walk afterwards and then we decided we wanted to get some dinner. In our travels, we arrived back at 50th Street and Broadway and saw this gorgeous bar and restaurant which we had passed before..."Emmett O'Lunney's"....so we decided to go in and give it a try.
My son ordered a hamburger and fries with a Sprite and I ate a Grilled Chicken Ceasar Salad with a ginger ale. It was a great dinner. The service was fabulous. We were seated right away when we came in even though it was at the peak of dinner time. I loved the Irish decor, having Irish roots, this bar & restaurant make you feel like you are back in Ireland.
The owner, Emmett O'Lunney is a great person as well--he makes you feel right at home. I wish the owner lots of luck with his establishment!
If you are ever in New York & you need a warm & friendly restaurant to pick up your spirits---come to Emmett O'Lunney's!
Pros: Excellent Food & Service

Jim Brady?s is a home from home for many locals like myself, but in addition also welcomes business folk and visitors to NYC ? you never know who you will end up talking to at the bar. The food is superb large portion Irish fare with excellent rotating specials, never had a bad meal in the place. It has a charming d?cor with comfy booths in the restaurant, so you can have an intimate meal if you wish. Great music as well, including occasional live bands.
Excellent service from all staff, combined with the high quality food, is the reason we keep going back.
Pros: Friendly staff & excellent Irish Food

Went here Saturday afternoon to watch the Derby and have a burger. They were nice enough to tune our TV to the Derby although other sets were tuned to baseball or a fight or a Ranger game. We were in town to vacation, take in a Yankee game and a show. Had eaten alot of good food but I was ready for a simple meal. The burgers are cooked to order, my wife likes 'em cooked all the way through and I like 'em warm. Both were done just right, I can't cook one better than this. They are expensive but you're in midtown Manhattan. Looks like a bargain compared to the $360 for dinner two nights previous. I can't wait to go back. Watresses were great. Loved it.
Pros: burgers, service, location, ambience
Cons: none

My sister and I were staying in the area for the weekend, and went looking for a place to get a quiet drink before our dinner reservations, and stumbled across Molly's. Having the same namesake it clearly was fate. The place is fantastic! Semi-dark, relaxed atmosphere, the perfect place to have a couple of beers and wind down. We went back the next night and the bartender remembered not only that we were in there the night before, but what we had been drinking-and it's always great when there is smithwicks on tap!
Pros: nice bartender, great atmosphere, great beer
Cons: juke box didn't work-but I don't know if they would have wanted us playing it anyway!
