Australian Homemade serves up some wicked ice cream and some really good loose chocolates. The chocolates come in a variety of mixed flavors and the ice cream is served slightly warmer than usual which is a little weird. They're open really late which is great as I'm out late. Definitely worth a look if you are in the East Village.

In case, handmade Belgium CHocolates to die for with flavors like Almond filling with orange and walnut fragments, Double Flavored Chocolate w/Hazelnut Cream, Walnuts & Pecans over a Vanilla Cream dipped in White Chocolate. Buy a few, Buy a box, they are worth it. PROS: CONS: You will leave gaining a few calories!

Its not kept frozen, but close to room temperature so you get the real taste of the ice cream and not just the ice. The ice cream is rich and thick, packed with flavor and goodness. Even if the East Village had a surplus of ice cream stores, this place would still be tops (bottoms?). Ever since we lost Brooklyn ice cream on Avenue A, however, we've been suffering. Now, with ice cream from down under, we actually have the best ice cream in the city--well, except maybe for Busola on third--and certainly leagues ahead of (behind?) the disappointing Laboratorio. As you can see, the idea of Australia gelato takes a little getting used to, but the taste, texture, and freshness kind of knocks you over (under?). Pros: Creaminess, Flavor, Freshness Cons: , Wallabees, Somersaults
