The Hotel Pennsylvania is close to everything. But that’s about all. I have only stayed there once, and once was more than enough. Even though the price of a room is just about the same as most of the other basic hotels in midtown Manhattan, but it’s not worth it. My supposed two-person room barely had room to fit the bed inside, the plaster on the walls was cracking, and the poor lighting made everything look dingy. The bathroom was rusty, and I didn’t even feel comfortable taking a shower in it. In short: it’s good if you’re in the area and desperately need a place to crash – but you’d be better off walking up to 46th Street and staying at the Edison.

The Hotel Pennsylvania is a HUGE hotel located in Herald Square, just a block away from Macy's, Penn Station, and Madison Square Garden. The rooms are clean and the staff is polite. The furnishings leave something to be desired, but if you are looking for a clean and inexpensive place to stay right in the middle of NYC, this is definitely the place. It's definitely in the better class of bargain hotels in NYC.

Hotel Pennsylvania is located right above Penn Station in New York City and across the street from Madison Square Garden. The location can't be beat; if you're in town for a Knicks game or a concert, or just staying the night before you hop on a train for Boston at Penn Station, then the Hotel Pennsylvania is not a bad place to stay.
That said, it's kind of a budget hotel. The rooms are super-tiny, not terribly clean, and the windows don't shut all the way. (This is really bad if you're staying here during the winter; it is REALLY cold and freezing then so you'd better bring a comforter)
That said, you get what you pay for. A standard room is about $140 per night, which, for New York City standards, is super-cheap and inexpensive.
