I was pleasantly surprised by the size and cleanliness of the rooms and entire building. The location coundn't be better. There is also a small workout room which leads to a patio on the ground level. The staff were friendly and helpful. I look forward to a return trip. I have stayed other places that were more expensive but this can't be beat. Please don't come here as I want to keep this a secret!
Pros: location, size, price

I see lots of negative reviews on the Hudson Hotel. Ignore them. This hotel is fun & priced right.
As with most New York City hotels, the rooms are small. Ours fit a double bed, nightstand, and armoire-type thing and it was a tight fit. However, as two adults who didn't travel to NYC to hang out in our hotel room, we never minded this. The rooms are done in modern decor and are very pleasing to the eye despite their size. The beds were comfy, the showers were hot, there was television and radio - good enough for me.
The hotel itself is awesome. The design is like nothing I've ever seen before. There is a restaurant (Hudson Cafeteria) that has good American fare. The Hudson Bar was dark, loud, and full of beautiful people. As a hotel guest, you are given a VIP pass so that you can enter the bar (get past the velvet rope) any time during your stay.
The hotel is centrally located, on W 58th Street which is close to Central Park, Broadway & the theater district, and an easy walk to Rockefeller Center.
If you are a fan of the Ian Schrager hotels, or like modern, fun decor & people, then this is a great hotel. We paid $189 per night and had an awesome time.

Soho Grand is very nice - located in the center place of the soho , the only weakness is that the rooms are on the small side. Very comfortable, quiet , well located (restaurants everywhere), funky lobby, comfy furniture. The hotel has good wireless access. Room service food is good (not great - but good). Big bathrooms. Free Internet , Free drinks @ night of course you have to give a good tip , Central AC , a lot of fun at night , will come back if i have to .

I would say that The Excelsior Hotel is a good value - what you get for the price is a really nice size room, clean, with good service and amenities. I staied there once and will come back again because I was highly sattisfied with everything. Location was also very good for me since I like to shop!

I can’t believe this is a 3.5 star hotel, because it seemed more like a 2 star hotel. The room we stayed in was tiny (it was like a closet) and the decor was average. The staff did not make much of an effort to be super friendly and helpful. The subway is a block away from the hotel. Considering that this hotel is in New York City, it’s not too bad for the rate, but don’t expect 3.5-star service.

This is one of the places I like to stash out-of-towners when they visit NYC.
They only have a handful of rooms (about a dozen?) and each one is different. The feel of the rooms is homey without being schmaltzy (the bane of B&B's is frilly victorian schmaltz!). It feels more like your own NYC apartment, with some rooms with exposed brick etc.
More homey touches include the life-like butler dummy slouched in his lobby chair and the hotel cat molding his splotchy body to the divans near the registration desk.
There is their site: http://www.innon23rd.com
The New School Culinary Arts Program meets here. They have a fun hands-on kitchen and a big round communal table in the dining room with built-in lazy susan, the better for enjoying the class' outputs. I have never tried the classes, but they look fun and educational, and I hear that other people enjoy the classes very much. More about classes: http://www.nsu.newschool.edu/culinary/

This is a very cute boutique hotel close to everything in Manhatten! Just a short walking distance to Grand Central where you can hop the subway to anywhere in NYC! Great bathing products by L'Ocataine. We will stay here again while visiting the Big Apple!
