I actually have never stayed at the Waldorf Astoria. I'm completely spoiled by the Shangri-la, Four Seasons and other places. The lobby is the stuff of movies literally, but the rooms I found kind of dinghy and a little wierd. Got in at 1AM in the morning, so maybe it colored my judgement, but the staff is friendly but the rooms themselves were a little strange. The thermostat was behind the door of the upgraded suite I stayed. The living room was nice, but a bit dinghy and the room itself was OK, but the bathroom really needs an overall. It took 10 minutes to get hot water up to the 17th floor and the fixtures just look old. Still it was a relatively cheap $270 and it is in in midtown.

The staff here are wonderful and friendly. It seems to me that the hotel is starting to show its age...the lobby looks kind of worn. The minibar is very overpriced, so don't eat or drink anything from there. The hotel is in a great, convenient location. The Museum of Modern Art is pretty close to the hotel, be sure to go there.
