I actually have never stayed at the Waldorf Astoria. I'm completely spoiled by the Shangri-la, Four Seasons and other places. The lobby is the stuff of movies literally, but the rooms I found kind of dinghy and a little wierd.
Got in at 1AM in the morning, so maybe it colored my judgement, but the staff is friendly but the rooms themselves were a little strange. The thermostat was behind the door of the upgraded suite I stayed. The living room was nice, but a bit dinghy and the room itself was OK, but the bathroom really needs an overall.
It took 10 minutes to get hot water up to the 17th floor and the fixtures just look old.
Still it was a relatively cheap $270 and it is in in midtown.
