Murray’s prides itself with sourcing the best cheese in the city. So its no surprise they also make fine sandwiches like the smoked mozzarella panini ($5.95). Basil, sun dried tomato and balsamic vinaigrette top sumptuous cheese from Joe’s Dairy. The chef then uses a panini press to melt the sandwich to perfection. Murray’s has an inviting bench out front of their shop for those who just can’t wait to dive in!
There's also a mind boggling selection of cheese to purchase by the pound.

Murray's Cheese Shop is definately a great place to go to try many cheeses that you can not just get anywhere. It is a village staple because it lives up to its reputation. If you have not been there yet, go out and grab a sample as they will treat you right. I have had nothing but good experinces there and cannot say enough positive things.

If you love cheese, then Murray's Cheese Shop is definately worth the trip. They are the cheese experts -- with a huge selection of pretty much anything you can imagine. A long time staple in the West Village of New York City -- this store is frequented mostly by locals but is worth a stop as a tourist as well. They do give samples on request.

Be prepared to lose yourself in the luxury of cheese tasting as you prepare to narrow down a few hundred choices to just a few for your first purchase. Their cheeses are the most fresh and best tasting I have ever found, and it's amazing that they actually know about all of them! There are other things to buy here as well - but really, come just for the cheese experience. If you have an occassion in mind like an open house party - all the better so you can more cheese than you anticipated. After you taste, the hardest part is chosing which to buy! Go with their tasting selections of 'new' cheeses that you may not have heard of - you won't be disappointed!

Murray's Cheese is an institution in Greenwich Village and I have been going there my whole life at all the locations as they moved less than 100 feet at a time. The newest location across the street from the last one has much more than cheese so be prepared and bring enough money. The staff is very friendly and they will let you sample a number of different cheeses to open your horizons.
The new location is also large enough for the classes they have to teach you more the world of cheese.

Located in the west village, this recently renovated and larger store offers over 250 varieties of cheese.
It's a friendly shop that has been in the neighborhood for over 40 years; it's a classic.
It's great to walk in and ask to sample some cheeses; don't be shy and try the manchego, or that rich one from France. They have a very good selection and will make sandwiches too.
They also offer classes on cheese and some are focused on wine and cheese pairings, always good to know.
Worth a visit to this NY classic.
