The quintessential Sunday food in NYC is the lox and bagel combo. You really aren't an official New Yorker until you've sampled the goodies from Zabars.
They slice their salmon razor thin and provide the best cream cheese options available. The bagels are chewy without requiring a mouth workout. It's simply heavenly.
Aside from this specific treat there are other reasons to visit. Namely the olives and cheese selection. All you need is a decent bottle of wine and you've got a cocktail party covered.
Great staff--old school and sharp.

This store is quite unique and a definite New York experience. They have a great deli and bread selection and large amounts of delicious home-made prepared foods.
However, to go in this store is an utter madhouse. Store likes this are what give New Yorkers a bad name - everyone is mad and pushing everyone else.
If you can get past the mean crowd this store has some great specialities you can't find elsewhere. There is also a great selection of appliances and kitchen gear upstairs for quite reasonable prices.
