I had read about Jack's Stir Brew prior to a recent trip to NYC but I didn't think I'd have time to get up to the Village to try it. Low and behold, there was a recently opened second shop about a one minute walk from my hotel in the South Seaport area. It's pretty small, but I read that it's bigger than the original location.
Amazingly good coffee, and I'm a total coffee snob. It's true that he's able to brew very strong, dark roast coffee with very low acidity.
Now I have to figure out how to simulate stir brewing and oxygenation at home, because I can't be going 3000 miles for a cup of coffee. Jack has spoiled me, and now my standards for coffee house coffee are too high for any other coffee house.
He needs to patent his brewing method, and start selling the machines to independent coffee houses and destroy the evil empire.
Pros: OMG--Best dark roast coffee I've ever had
Cons: No branches in California

Jacks stir brewed coffee is divine! their coffee and teas, no matter what kind (but dont be chicken, try the specialties), and downtown chef sandwhiches are beyond amazing. I dont know how anyone could say anything bad, personally I love its tininess. This way no groups/cell phone hogs/sex and the city wannabes stay because with 8 other people so close in one little shop no one has enough chutspa to be a "cafe-annoyance". No matter what you order the staff is friendly, attentive and makes you wanna be their friend. An alternative to any regular coffeehouse(ahem, starbucks) but with a plus, rhis coffee is actually good, no wait superb.
Pros: everything- esp their specialty drinks
Cons: nope, nada, nilch, none

The coffee: delicious. Perfectly brewed and much care taken to deliver you a hot cup of heaven. But you don't just go to Jack's for the coffee -- the atmosphere is a delight. The absolute anti-Starbucks, Jack's is the W. Village neighborhood cafe you've been dying for. Sure, it's a little cramped, but you'll get to know your neighbors .. and they're the kind you want to meet. Seating is limited (four tables), but there are benches outside, and they usually even leave a bowl of water outside for your dog. Baked goods are top notch, though they're always running out of croissants by early afternoon. And the service? No jerks here -- just genuinely friendly people who are pleased to see you each day (or, in my case, multiple times a day) and actually enjoy their jobs. Cash only. Definitely worth visiting, but don't tell too many people about this neighborhood find!
Pros: coffee, service, decor
Cons: limited seating, early-ish hours

My daily coffee fix has gone up several notches with the introduction of Jack's Stir Brew Coffee to our neighborhood last fall. There's a personal touch to each cup, with the staff's cheery hello and their consistent effort to warm organic milk up before adding it to your coffee. The coffee is stir-brewed and is made from fair trade beans. It is nearly impossible to pass up the array of highly selective breakfast goodies - muffins from Blue Sky Bakery, Small Sandwiches from Tom's in SoHo, Ronnybrook yogurt with a micro-enterprise-made granola - to compliment the creamy, rich coffee.

There is an old village authenticity here like no other.
PS a warning and correction. The cross street is Greenwich Avenue, not Greenwich street. An important distinction as there is both. If Ya wind up on Greenwich Street, you are way out of your way!
Congrats, Jack and thanks.

It was my first morning as a resident of New York and I found myself restless, as I am most mornings when the clock is nearing 6:30.
Picking up the Times on the corner I decided to take a walk. Following the brisk dawn air down West 10th, I soon encountered Jack's. It wasn't yet open so I sat on the welcoming wooden bench and began to take in the day's news.
Not two minutes would pass before a smile ushered me in out of the cold, graciously serving me the best cup of coffee I've yet to taste, all of this before normal opening hours. I've been back every morning since.
Pros: Large open window, Warm staff, Excellent coffee

Great vibe, great coffee, great cookies. I wish this place was closer to my apartment, but I make the special trip across the hood to hit Jack's.
Pros: atmosphere, coffee, friendly
