Kalustyan's is an Indian/International food market situated in the middle of "Curry Hill" in Gramercy Park. If you enjoy cooking and want to dabble in Indian cooking from any region, there is nothing you can't find in this shop. As the saying goes, if they don't have it, you don't need it.
Along the narrow aisles, you will find a dizzying array of spices and accompaniments for the amateur, as well as the professional, chef. If you're not starting from scratch, but want to sample Indian cooking, that's not a problem wither. The store features a variety of curry and cooking sauces from numerous brands, both domestic and imported, ghee, curry leaves, and assorted Indian groceries. The one downside is the staff, who for the most part aren't too talkative or helpful in explaining some of the products they stock. In fact, their own website does a better job of doing that, but it skims over the amount of product they have.
Thus, it's best to come prepared and know what you want. And if you like spicy: take a bag of the punjabi mix with you as you go.

Kalustyan's has one of the largest collection of unusual spices, legumes, exotic vegetables and other ingredients that I've ever seen in one store. I love to go in just to browse because I know I'll find something I've never tried. Although it's mainly focuses on Indian cuisine the store stocks a variety of ethnic ingredients.

i came back from a trip to turkey and had a craving for adana kebabs like you read about. and since i like to be adventurous in the kitchen i figured i'd give it a try myself. but i couldnt find any of the ingredients til someone steered me this way. their spice selection is better than you would find in any middle eastern bazaar. they have good cookiig supplies and even a cafe if you get worn out from shopping. if you are planning on doingn any type of cooking relating to the middle east this store is a must.
