So I was walking around in the west village and went in to this new store called hus. I bought a Filippa K black and white, chiffon dress, (absolutely gorgeous). I can't even begin to describe how lovely this dress is. Everyone in the store were really helpfull and friendly, I ended up chatting with the owner (who's danish) for a while. The other day I brought my boyfriend over (who hates shopping), and he got a Tiger Of Sweden suit. Sooo excited!!! Everything in the store is scandinavian and they carry everything from music, to clothing, to toys. I LOVE this store, go check it out!!!
Pros: Not too expensive, really fun stuff, great service!!!

Kate's Paperie is a beautiful store for paper and stationary. The paper comes in all sizes, textures and types. The paper is very unique and often quite beautiful. They also have things like journals and picture frames. The only con is that Kate's is rather expensive -- but it would be worth it for a special occasion.

This is no Hallmark card store. If you 're looking for something a little different and just plain weird, this is the store for you. Not only are the cards unique and quirky, but you'll find gift items for that special someone who might appreciate a framed bat skeleton. Or how about some Day of the Dead miniature scenes. OK, they also have a impressive array of cards and gift wrap for the not so twisted individual. No judgments, just check it out.

Chelsea markets is home to an authentic italian deli for hard to find flours, pastas, meats, olives, oils, etc. It made me nostalgic to my childhood and rivals arthur avenue for selection, although pricier for sure. there are several great places to eat within the market as well as many well known bakeries including eleni's and sarabeth's. a great way to spend an afternoon if combined with a walk through the west village.

I was so impressed at the level of expertice in the tennis raquet department. I walked in there knowing nothing about tennis - wanting to buy a high-end raquet as a gift for an int/adv player. The guy who worked with me told me everthing I needed to know - explaining terms and reasonings as he went along - also telling me which players on the men's and women's teams used which raquets and strings. I felt no pressure at all to make a purchase and he literally spent about 35 min. with me and my questions. I am still so impressed with how knowledgable the staff was - even after I came home and did some research online. All in all - I have just found my new favorite sports store.
Pros: inexpensie, knowledgable staff, great selection

Staghorn is a great little shop that has an incredible selection of unique, funny, beautiful or useful gift items. From books to baby clothes to doormat, they seem to have it all in a very small space. The staff lets you browse to your hearts content. The prices are a bit high but standard for NYC boutique style products. If you're looking for the "ooh cool, where did you get this?" reaction from your gift recipient, or if you have no idea what to give and need some good ideas, this is the place to start your shopping!

This is avery nice store with a nice stuff.
I cannot pass by this place as the whole block around is filled with the fancy mix of smells from the store. Vanilla, musk, tropical fruits... Body souffles, scrubs, creams and massage oils. By the way, this is the right place to shop for a gift. Believe me your mother, sister or girlfriend will like as much as I and my girlfriens do.
Pros: Try their salt scrub

For fellow beauty guru's out there, you will be pleasantly intrigued by Sabon's delicious array of bath and body products. What's cool is all of their products are imported from Israel and many contain Dead Sea minerals.
I've been hooked on their Massage Oil - which I also use as a perfume and an aroma (a few drops into an oil burner does wonders!)
Just recently they added a new fresh cut soap to the already vast array of handmade soaps - Glycerine Kiwi Mango Rose Petals - sounds a bit bizarre, but WOW, it's such a unique combination of fragrances. A must try!
Check out Sabon too, if you are interested in supporting Breast Cancer Research - they have a beautiful new basket "The Pink Bath" basket on sale and 30% of proceeds are going straight to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation - in my opinion, it's a win win situation.
Enjoy
Pros: Beautiful retail locations and friendly staff and if you live outside the city, their online store is just as inviting!
Cons: You cannot buy just one thing

Wow, this place is absolutely awesome. It beats getting someone flowers any day. I think this is one of the coolest stores. Basically, as the name implies, they make arrangements that look like a floral arrangement, but that are edible. Most are made with fruits like strawberries and pineapples, but they also have chocolate ones as well. If you are looking to get someone a special gift and want to do something other than flowers, check out Edible Arrangements. They have several locations throughout New York City. They are a bit pricey and this isn't something that I would get all the time, but it is nice for special occasions.
