My wife and I were members of the Equinox on 91st and Broadway for several years and really liked it. The 91st street location has great equipment and classes, the people are nice, and the gym is spacious and clean. When we moved to midtown I tried the Columbus Circle location for a few days and was disappointed mainly because it's not as spacious and is really dark. The gym is in the basement of the Time Warner building and does not get any natural light. For the price I'd prefer the Reebok. For people who want a less expensive gym that has good service (nice people) I'd also recommend the Gravity gym in the Parker Meridian Hotel on 57th between 6th and 7th.

equinox health club is one of the best clubs in new york city. it is clean, well run and has a ton of equiipment. the class sessions are also great and there is a lot of variety. however, it is important to reserve spots in most classes as they fill up quickly. the equinox center in columbus circle is awesome and close to the 1, 9, a,b,c,d trains.
