I have been a patient here(nyu) three years or more; since I have been here I had some extensive dental work done(from extractions of wisdom tooth/rebuilding of number of different teeth plus a number of other procedures). To now being a patient of the orthodontic department. As you can imagine, within a three year span, i have had a number of student doctors work on me. And you know what? I don't have any complaints, about any department(and i have received treatment from three , different departments/i have experience here). I have nothing, but praise for these young professionals(who are making a difference in people lives). I currently wear braces and I'm completely satisified with my doctor/her team(DR. H Park of orthodontic department). She is truly an amazing doctor. As she puts forth here best effort into each and every patient. Best orthodontist ever( I highly recommend)! Also, I would like to thank all student doctors, who i have been a patient of. For, working on my mouth(case) is no easy task but rather a learning experience(very difficult indeed). Thank you, once again DR Park,(your hard work is appreciated).

Oh my god, do NOT go there. I was in HORRIBLE pain and went to their emergency weekend clinic. They misdiagnosed me and didn't believe me that I was in pain. Even though I told them that I was unable to sleep or do anything because of it, the doctor refused to prescribe me any pain meds because he stupidly believed I had something else than I actually had (which was later diagnosed at a different hospital). Not only are they incompetent, they also treat their patients like idiots.

I am in shock. I went for assistance because my tooth is falling out. I was open to having it extracted and putting either a partial or implant in. I was told that they would not do any work unless i took EIGHT of my ten upper teeth out. UNBELIEVABLE. As i was leaving because they refused to help me with the one tooth the student said "just go to the emergency room when you're ready." I happen to agree with their treatment plan but i cannot afford it and they would rather turn me away for the problem i went to see them for rather than help me. Their agenda is "all or nothing." I left very disappointed. I think this is disgraceful. I wonder how many dentists out there in the real world would turn down patients for the problem they are coming to the dentist for? How many practicing dentists would not work on your mouth at all unless you committed to fixing every single tooth in your head? NYU Dental Clinic certainly did not serve my needs. They ignored me completely and basically said get out if you don't have ten thousand dollars.

Awful. Unorganized. Total disregard. My visit to the dental clinic was a nightmare. After arriving for my appointment I waited for almost 2 hours. Only after going to the desk and dealing with the (very rude) receptionist was i seen. When i was seen for what was supposed to be my wisdom tooth extraction, I was told i hadn't been scheduled properly and would need to come back after another consultation. Why was i not told about this at my first visit 2 weeks prior to this visit? Or when i called to confirm my appointment? There was no explanation and I was made to feel like i had made the mistake. This visit was truly an example of our failing healthcare system, the patient's needs are no longer a priority. what's important are the hoops you must jump through just to get some help from a "professional" I will NEVER set foot in the NYU dental clinic again. If there was a way to rate 0 stars, I would.

The place is quite dirty- a bit shocking for a dental facility. My third year dental student was scattered, no supervisor in sight. She was also not graded for the work. I made my intention for my visit very clear. I got the X-rays done by protest since she told me once I was already in the chair that I would need to return because they were out of film. She also tried to not give me the cleaning and make me come back for another appointment. I protested yet again and got the cleaning. Still have no idea what the set of 18 X-rays revealed. At the end of the visit she told me that these visits are two separate visits-- 3 -4 hours to do a cleaning and X-rays? If you include the screening- that's three appointments. Not worth it. I found my dental student to be very scattered-- and this is before I got testy about her repeated requests to have me return over and over for minimal care. Sorry NYU not for me.

I wish I could give zero stars. This place is the worst. Not only did they misdiagnose a popcorn kernel under the gum as something requiring a root canal, the level of care is non existent. Oh and good luck trying to get your xrays. I have been calling NYU for weeks daily--no one in patient records will answer the phone. I've paid the copying fee in person to get my xrays, but they will not send them to me. I don't think the prices are good, either. You can find dentists in NY who give discounts. Go elsewhere.

The implant programs at NYU Dental is competitive with each program. I believe the programs are deceptive. NIH provided a generous grant and you sign $1025 for an implant. Yet, you can pay $3000 when completed. With a broken tooth and in pain I was Guaranteed a perfect candidate for an implant. Sent me home with the same broken tooth (I live in PA and in pain) which I pulled myself and then I had to make three separate visits to find out the work according to that specialist had to be done on another floor. Another specialist was out to lunch and provided service at his convenience. I finally walked out and hoped he enjoyed his vacation in NYC, as he supposedly had a practice in New Jersey. Lack of communication, professionalsm, and attitude towards patients.

Good: After both my dentures collapsed, a faculty member took pity. He and his group were great. I have tried to get in touch w/the clinic for some repairs, it is impossible to reach them. Every time I go there someone encourages me to spend huge sums of money. If I had the money, I wouldn't use them. Columbia is slightly more expensive. Their delivery system is excellent. They are a ranked school for a reason. I went to NYU for 25 year: same problems: the faculty support has deteriorated.. Bad: I had to sue to get them to repair my dentures. They get pushing back my work. I had no front teeth. Everything on a staff level happens too slowly.. Improvements: Better supervision. This should not be a social hour for the faculty.. Other: I call and the phone says: the message space is filled. Get someone to answer the phones. You are a service facility, and it is impossible to get through..

Good: the courtesy and patience of the interns. Bad: being shuffle from one student to another; the lace of concern of what is best for the patient by the faculty member. On 2 occasion faculty thought it was best to extract 2 teeth than treating and restoring them; their reasoning it better than wasting time to treat the problem. My attending senior student had to fight for me, he ended up in the office with the (big guns) in the blue coats. He argued for me, the result; I got root canal and gum surgery above the tooth, He saved my tooth-Thanks Dr. Thomas.

Good: I was lucky to connect with a talented and professional faculty member and have stayed with her now for years. The students are nice, well-intended and seem to have good classroom training. The support staff is very professional. The facilities have been upgraded and that is a big improvement.. Bad: The faculty is terrible except for a few. With some exceptions, these are people who treat patients with extreme disrespect varying from hostility and contempt to condescension to disinterest. This includes deans and department heads. What a bunch of losers.. Improvements: Find better faculty and demand that they treat patients with respect..
